Why are we paying attention to some weirdo Christian guy who already botched at least one doomsday prophecy? Oh well, I guess it's kinda funny. And gives me an excuse to celebrate this crazy, mixed-up, scary, lovely place by walking to the restaurant down the way and having a plate of beef stroganoff later. They do it awesome over there. Also, I can link to this neat sketch from an old MST episode. Love the flaming pipe- great practical effect there.

In other news, I'm pretty sure we've finished with spring now. Ten-day forecast is calling for 80+ degrees almost continuously, getting up near 90 at times. And that's about typical for Maryland- we had one nice week that was too pollen-choked to enjoy, then one crappy week of clouds and intermittent storms, and now it's summer.

Otherwise, it's time to decide to clean and/or cook. I've been thinking about attempting that chicken soup/pasta sauce/casserole marathon I've done a couple times with my mom. Not sure if I can accomplish it on my own... but it's hard to overestimate a freezer full of delicious meals. Maybe I'll just watch Dylan Moran's What It Is again. That guy is amazing.

ETA: No stroganoff. Denied! I even asked for it- they "took it off the menu." I told the waitress I came specifically for that, and she made a sympathetic noise. Oh well, had a burger instead. And a Mike's Hard Lemonade, which was pretty darn nice. And now I have yummy leftover fries to soak in the chili I made last week. Not a bad way to end a doomsday, don't you think?

I think in some weird way, we like to muse humorously about how everything might end. For instance: will the Four Horsemen ride motorcycles (a la Good Omens) or drive classic cars (like in Supernatural)? And what about other apocalypses, like the Norse Ragnarok? Also, MST3K is the best---I wouldn't be surprised if those old 1950s TV dads were the Four Horsemen.

Eh, we're still fluctuating between spring, summer, and winter in Missouri. Then again, around here, consistency in the weather just doesn't exist.

Date: 2011-05-21 07:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
I think everyone would be pretty freaking surprised if Ragnarok kicked off today. Anyway, yeah, I know, there have been people wondering about the end of the world since the world began. It is interesting, in a way.

It's the same in Maryland. As the saying goes, "Don't like the weather? Wait five minutes."

Hey, we've still got a couple of hours to go, the world could still end! I was just thinking about that restaurant near your apartment, and that amazing chicken/crab stuff sandwich I had there. Man, that was tasty.

Ugh, it's Maryland weather and therefor entirely unpredictable. It'll probably be freezing the week after the 80/90 degree whether just to screw with us.

I think I'm going to watch The King's Speech with my mother later, after we get dinner. This has been like the most low-key birthday ever.

Ye-eah, Apocalpyse does have until 6pm to get going. *taps foot, crosses arms, checks watch*

Hee, I like to think we're out of the 50-degree range at this point, but you never know.

Well, I would factor in your party last weekend. Boy, what a rager that was.

Date: 2011-05-21 07:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
This seemed appropriate.

It's Maryland. You never do know. I kind of wish we'd go back to 50 degrees, at least.

Oooh, yes, we sure are reckless hedonists. With our cider drinking, cupcake eating, Doctor Who watching shenanigans.

*snort* To be fair, if the world did end at 6pm, at least those of us in this time zone wouldn't be left with a cliffhanger.

*sigh* I know you do, weirdo.

Downright bacchanalian (holy shit, spelled it right the first time), that was.

From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
LOL, such modesty.

I just really like wearing sweaters, okay?

*snort* If you can spell it, you haven't lived it. ;) Except for at my party, clearly. I think the two of us were the only ones who got drunk at all.

XDDD Oh, Moffat.

Hey, I don't judge.

LOL, so true. That might've been the case, yeah... Heh, oops. :D

I guess when you have both the Doctor and Sherlock Holmes on payroll, there's not a lot of problems you can't solve.

Mm-hmm.

Hey, I'm just happy everyone didn't leave after an hour.

Also I find this mystifying. MV has the weirdest tweets.

Heh, seriously. If any two guys could deal with the end of the world, once they stopped bickering, it would be Sherlock and the Doctor.

Aw, it went fine. They're lovely folks.

XD What is that. Maybe he's in a contest with a friend for Most Pointless Tweet.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Hee, I think they'd actually be quite taken with each other. Sherlock would have someone who could keep up with him (probably even surpass him, which might make him sulk).

*sigh* They are. It makes me sad that some of them are graduating and going away.

I don't even know. This was kind of clever, and this is just making me think RPF-things.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
I dunno, neither of them like it when someone knows more than they do. I read a fic once where they tried to play chess. It didn't go well.

Aw, I know. I'd say maybe two of my college friends are in this state, nowadays.

Hee, those are pretty good. In that second one, is he telling his followers how to dress that day? I would take fashion advice from MV.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Well, they don't like it when it's an evil someone holding back information for evil reasons (at least the Doctor doesn't). But in terms of someone else being smarter than them...I don't think I've ever seen it happen, so who knows how they'd react?

Yeah, at least with UMD, people tended to be from MD, but from far enough away that it's not as easy as popping up to College Park.

*snort* You would take fashion advice from MV to wear jeans shirts buttoned up to your chin? I'm not sure I would. He also did a playlist.

From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Eh, you have the Doctor being annoyed with River, but I guess it's more because she knows stuff about his future specifically. I do think Sherlock would dislike not being the smartest person in the room. The Doctor, however... yes, he does appreciate genuine intelligence from others. And anyway, TBH, they're not really in the same class as the last Time Lord, as pretentious as that is.

Yeah. It's not really easy to get much of anywhere from Sykesville, I must admit.

Well, I'm sure he has hits and misses. Overall we know he's a pretty stylish individual. Hee, it pleases me that I know at least a few of those songs.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Yeah, I think even the chance that Mycroft might be smarter than him is at least partly why Sherlock doesn't like him so much. But the Doctor might enjoy talking to him, although not as much as if he were being a brat.

Milo is normally very stylish, but somehow when it comes to photoshoots he lets people put him in truly ridiculous things. Or push him into pools while wearing jeans.

Date: 2011-05-21 08:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
I'm pretty sure Mycroft is smarter than Sherlock, which is indeed what pisses Sherlock off so badly. I think Sherlock would be so intrigued by the whole non-human thing that he wouldn't be annoyed that the Doctor is smarter than him for at least a little while.

Hee, yes, apparently he becomes very pliable when having his picture taken.

Date: 2011-05-21 11:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
If not smarter, at least he seems to have better people skills. Man, Sherlock dealing with aliens, when he doesn't even know that the earth revolves around the sun...

*snort* Maybe I should invest in some camera equipment...

Date: 2011-05-22 12:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
He's smart enough to know the value of people skills. Heh, John would so gloat about that.

Couldn't hurt. ;)

Date: 2011-05-22 12:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Although, you know, the kidnapping his brother's new flatmate wasn't exactly the wisest move, people-skills wise. John would love that. Man, John would love the Doctor, and frankly I think the Doctor would love John. He's badass and capable and smart.

Date: 2011-05-22 12:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Well, possibly that was a miscalculation- he does say he worries constantly about Sherlock. Ooh, John would make an excellent companion. Heh, I'd say he is a companion, Sherlock's companion. Isn't there an AU fic out there where Sherlock is a Time Lord, the Detective?

Date: 2011-05-22 01:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Well, still, quite a miscalculation. Also this had to be shared:

Exactly, because he cares so much.

Hee. Seriously, if Rory dies again in this episode then I'd say we are in full-on meme territory.

Dude, Amy's red plaid shirt is back!

Date: 2011-05-22 01:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Well, that's lovely of him.

Had the red plaid shirt ever really gone away? I guess it didn't show up last week, but...

URG, MY UNCLE JUST CALLED AND I LOST LIKE FIFTEEN MINUTES OF THE EPISODE! I hate my birthday.

Date: 2011-05-22 01:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
And yet, so creepy.

I'm sure it never goes away.

Awww, well, you didn't miss much. Umm, the Docto soniced the bit tub of white goo and said it felt like it was scanning him. Now I have no idea what's happening.

Date: 2011-05-22 01:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Well, with the Holmes brothers, that's kind of a given.

I'm okay with that. It's kind of adorable, and at least it looks comfy.

That...doesn't make much sense to me, but I'll go with it.

Date: 2011-05-22 01:29 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Petty much.

True enouh.

Well, okay, you know the "gangers" are kind of replacement bodies used for hard labor, made out of this white goo that can replicate people in every way, even clothes. They are supposed to melt when the real people stop controlling them, but clearly that's gone awry.

Date: 2011-05-22 01:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com

I love how this is suddenly "Blade Runner", with all the shared memories.

ETA: LOL, and of course they're airing Blade Runner on BBC tomorrow.

Well, it's not exactly the same. The replicants aren't supposed to be exact duplicates of real people, controlled by those people. But anyway, is it just me or are these actors' accents thicker than usual? Tough to catch the words entirely.

Date: 2011-05-22 01:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Yeah, I don't know if it's the accent or the soundmixing but people are kind of especially mumbly.

Oh, great, eye patch lady.

From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Oy. So, this is this season's "humans SUCK" episode.

Date: 2011-05-22 02:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
I don't even know what's going on in this episode.

Date: 2011-05-22 02:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Well, it appears to be original!humans vs. ganger!humans, because we can't meet a new lifeform without wanting to obliterate it.

But ganger!Doctor is interesting...

Date: 2011-05-22 02:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Yeah, I mean, I get the plot, it's just...so kind of excessively random. I mean seriously, why is there always these two-part episodes where people are going to war with each other for no real reason other than to serve as a metaphor for the futility of war and the fact that really, we are all the same? The one last season with the lizard people underground, and then "The Doctor's Daughter" was like that.

Plus I'm not really sure why that one dude kept coughing; like, I feel it must be significant, but I have no clue why. And then Jennifer, okay, so the one Rory was mostly talking to was the ganger, but the real one suddenly showed up there as well? Where's she been?

Honestly, I'm putting this out there now: they're all gangers and have been for a while. The real ones are long dead as are their families, probably.

Date: 2011-05-22 02:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Yup, it's the "humans SUCK" episode.

I am quite confused between the two Jennifers. The ganger one seemed to be the one who was all "Help me, Rory!" but now she's all "It's us and them!" and the human one is... I don't even know.

That would be cool. I'm wondering if Amy and Rory aren't gangers too.

Date: 2011-05-22 02:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Well, I'd say it's more the "war SUCKS" episode, or at least the "Armed conflict stemming from fear of the other SUCKS" than people. I mean it is people starting it, so I guess it's that too.

Seriously! I'm thinking maybe the ganger version is kind of fighting with herself, between the scared, meek girl the original was and the the brave, assertive one she wanted to be, which fit the story she told about when she got lost. No clue what the human one's up to.

I doubt Amy and Rory are gangers, but I do think at least part of the reason Rory's being so good about the ganger thing is because of his time as a Nestene...thing. Like, he knows what it's like to have the memory and the soul of a person you actually aren't. And not all of that Moffat bullshit about him needing a weak, needy woman he can take care of because Amy isn't that.

Date: 2011-05-22 02:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Yeah, but it sure seems like humans who always get into those kind of scrapes

That would make sense.

As would this. And not what gave me a serious case of side-eye, Moffat. And he was an Auton.

Date: 2011-05-22 02:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
I like to pretend it's just because the Doctor mostly hangs out with humans. Probably all species in the galaxy suck about as much, maybe in different ways. Except for the Ood, they seem all right.

Ah, right, Autons. I should really just tune out all of those "Behind the scenes" features they keep showing. If only because I prefer not to have characterizations/motivations spelled out to me in a way that drives me nuts.

Date: 2011-05-22 02:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Ye-eah, I mean, obviously that's the case. But still, it takes a toll. :(

Yeah, best to just tune that out.
