*sigh* So an average/good day has taken a turn for the crappy. I was trying to defrost some chicken for dinner and managed to burn my righthand ring and middle finger. I'm plucking this out with my left hand while the other holds on to a towel with ice. It's kind of amazing how much the cold helps. It's seriously like "*take the cold away, wait two seconds* !@#@$##$@!@Oooowwww! *put the cold back on* Ahhh..." And I'm waiting for some painkillers to kick in. I wonder how it's going to be working tomorrow...
Anywho, I had other stuff to talk about, but now that my words per minute has been so effectively hobbled, let's just focus on what's important, eh?
'Reply and I'll give you four fandoms. You then have to make an entry writing about your favorite character from each fandom, and why.'
hermione_vader gave me Discworld, Burn Notice, Dollhouse, and Sherlock.
Discworld. Oh my god, I could never choose! PTerry creates the most amazing characters EVER! *sigh* Um, okay, fine, I guess it would have to be a three-way tie between Sam Vimes, Granny Weatherwax, and Susan. All complete badasses, all with dark sides they keep fierce control over, all utterly wonderful.
Burn Notice. Probably Sam, because Bruce Campbell can do no wrong. Heh, seriously though, I love Sam's big-brother attitude towards Michael (catch anyone else calling him Mikey? I don't think so). I'd say he's got a big-brother thing with Fi as well, in that she annoys the piss out of him as a smart alecky little sister would.
Dollhouse. While I love me some classic Whedon-speak as provided by Mister Topher, I'd say Adelle DeWitt wins my heart for being an equally classic HBIC, whether she's defending the Dollhouse or helping destroy it. And at the end, it's my personal canon that she becomes the first Shepherd in the creation of Firefly's world post-Thoughtpocalypse.
Sherlock. Heh, oh dear, this is like the opposite problem from Discworld- all great characters, but not many to choose from. I guess... I guess... John. Because he's a crack shot with nerves of steel and a strong moral compass who wears comfy sweaters and calls Sherlock Holmes an idiot. It doesn't get much better than that, I don't think.
Heh, I'm worried about work tomorrow- how am I going to sleep with this damn thing? My ice cubes are going away and it still hurts like hell. *sigh* I guess I'll figure something out.

Date: 2010-09-02 01:49 am (UTC)Heh, I am usually not good at picking favorites, but for both of the fandoms I have in common with you for this, I would actually be able to. Vimes, hands down, and Lestrade; neither of which is a huge shock, I'm sure.

Date: 2010-09-02 02:03 am (UTC)Heh, no, not really any surprise at all. For me, Lestrade needs a little more development before I can call him my favorite.

Date: 2010-09-02 02:07 am (UTC)I don't know, sometimes the more development characters get the less I like them. I guess because I can't keep my headcanon going for them anymore.

Date: 2010-09-02 02:15 am (UTC)That's a good point. More development is always a gamble, because you may not like what you get. But I have some faith in Gatiss and Moffat- they seem all for making Lestrade as complex and awesome as he can be.

Date: 2010-09-02 02:17 am (UTC)Heh, honestly, I'd prefer it if they developed one of the female characters better first. Lestrade suggests enough at the moment; poor Molly and Sally could use...anything.

Date: 2010-09-02 02:26 am (UTC)True. I'm looking forward to how they portray Irene Adler. I think she could really be something if they put the effort in.

Date: 2010-09-02 02:42 am (UTC)Hah, well, I'd almost rather they didn't bother; no matter what the writers do, they're screwed. Some people are going to hate her, and other people are going to love her and say that all the people who hate her are disgruntled John/Sherlock fans, and it'll take over fandomsecrets for months until the next big thing comes along. Plus we'll probably have more Moffat sexism wank (I'm surprised there hasn't been any yet, actually). It's just so exhausting, and the fandom's all fluffy and happy for the most part right now. I don't want to lose that.

Date: 2010-09-02 04:54 pm (UTC)Oh come on, there are brats in any fandom that are going to take any new development badly, that shouldn't mean a show isn't allowed to try new stuff. Personally I really don't find it that difficult to keep the various shades of wank and drama off my screen.

Date: 2010-09-02 02:03 am (UTC)Hmm, I don't know about Burn Notice. I think I'd go with Fi. I'd also go with John for Sherlock! (And I'll take four fandoms. :))

Date: 2010-09-02 02:12 am (UTC)Fi's pretty awesome. She is, as the show's creators have said, the muscle to Sam's brains- which is an inversion I adore.
Four fandoms:
White Collar, Torchwood, NCIS, and Psych

Date: 2010-09-02 02:34 am (UTC)That's why I like Fi. She's kick ass and can handle herself. Michael and Sam have needed to get her out of some scrapes before, but they've all rescued each other. And I think they've done a good job of showing that since the first episode.
I will get on that. :)

Date: 2010-09-02 04:50 pm (UTC)Totally. Those three really have a great team dynamic. And the show's writers understand that it's cool to have Michael take a backseat sometimes and let Sam/Fi have the spotlight, which I really appreciate.
