Man, what is better than a beautiful lazy Saturday morning after a long week of work and various running around? I've had my scrambled eggs, my bagel (half margarine, half Nutella- yummm), and now I've got a cup of the fantastic jasmine tea my sister sent up from Florida. I've got all three Sherlock episodes queued up for viewing, and I haven't quite decided if I'm going to attempt a beef stew today. Hm. Also, I finally caved and bought six months of paid lj time. So, uh, yay extra icons? Heh, that was really all I was interested in. I dunno, maybe I'll fiddle around with my layout.

Anyway, my creepy lj-lurking has found me a meme!

1. When did you first fall in love with ship number 1 (Peter/Claude)?
Aw, well, actually, visiblemarket and I were talking about that a little while ago, and I unforgivably forgot that my first exposure to Peter/Claude was sam_storyteller's unbelievable Hiatus Continuations fic from waaay back when. That definitely caught my interest, as did his epilogue fic that focused on the pairing, Throwing Bricks at One Another. And then I wrote my WW2 thing and found peterandclaude and the rest, as they say, is history. And I couldn't be happier. ^^

2. When did you fall in love with ship number 5 (Shawn/Lassiter)?
Hmm. It's been an awfully long time, and Shawn/Lassiter is a pairing I really like, but haven't pursued much myself beyond reading fic. Especially these days, where the show's writers treat them both like one-dimensional cartoon characters whose interactions have no lasting impact or create any kind of development at all. But, there were moments throughout the first few seasons where I honestly could've seen Shawn/Lassiter become canon. All the mutual frenemy groping and such. There are plenty more, but what's coming to mind right now is from the episode "Gus Walks into a Bank" where Shawn exclaims to Lassiter, "You are so sexy right now!" And also pretty much the whole of "Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing." And also my subject line, which was a note written from Shawn to Lassiter in season one and ended with "H&Ks."

3.What is your favorite moment of ship number 3 (Wash/Zoe)?
Aw, I guess it'll have to be them in bed during "Shindig," with Zoe all naked and glowing and Wash being insanely adorable and hot. "I'm getting into this poetry thing. 'Here lies Zoe, my autumn flower... Somewhat less attractive now that she's all corpsified and gross.'" Awww, *tear*.

4. What will the ship be if you take the boy from ship 2 and the girl from ship 1 and mesh them? If one or both of the ships are slash, then pick and choose.
Whoops! That would be either Peter/West or Claude/West- the first I've already covered and the second... no comment, except that, as with most CE characters, I don't think they'd get along.

5. Vise versa.
Umm, I guess that would be Peter/Mirror!Wendy or Claude/Mirror!Wendy. Which is.. interesting. One of the dark Future!Peters might get along okay with her, I think. Claude, though... I doubt it. I just don't think he's attracted to power that way, and I think that's a lot of who Mirror!Wendy is.

6. What's your favorite moment for ship 4 (Alice/Hatter)?
Well, since it's a miniseries there aren't a ton to choose from. I do like the heart-achy moment before she leaves where the UST is bursting at the seams and you want them to just freaking say what they really mean but they don't. And then there's the lovely "What happens if I can't get back?" "Then I'll make sure you're okay." exchange, which gave me an idea for a fic that I'll never write but still like to ruminate on every now and then.

7. How long was there between the time you got into the fandom and the time you started shipping ship number 3 (Wash/Zoe)?
Heh, uh, I think I was probably watching Firefly and enjoying Wash/Zoe before I really got started in fandom proper.

8. When did you start shipping ship number 4 (Alice/Hatter)?
Pssh, instantly? I thought it was cool that the show's creators went there. I know Alice/Hatter has been around for the Disney version and probably others, but it can be kind of squicky if you don't adjust things a little. Syfy's Alice really went ahead and retooled their whole dynamic into something that worked extremely well.

9. Take three random people from three of the ships and create an OT3.
Hee, how about Claude/Zoe/Lassiter? Aw, now I'm thinking of it as a big grief-fueled triangle because they've all lost their soul mates one way or another. In any case, it would be badass, no matter what.

Your new default icon is lovely! I spotted it on an old post I was looking through and thought it was gorgeous.

I love that the random crack crossover pairing we came up with once ranks second in terms of your OTPs, by the way.

That Wash/Zoe moment you mention is unbelievably adorable and hot. I still kind of hate Whedon for breaking them up, while simultaneously loving him for bringing them together.

Hee, thanks! Ain't it though? I've been holding on to it for ages, wanting to use it as my default but not really (I like having an icon I make myself as my default). I'm sad that the person who made it appears to have picked up sticks and left.

I've told you time and again West/Mirror!Wendy is my villain OTP for now and forever. It's just so wonderfully BAMF-y and twisted.

I know, I know. If it helps, there was an interview with Gina Torres where she says that Zoe was pregnant during the movie and now has a beautiful little Washburne baby to care for. Yeah, she's not Whedon or one of the other writers, but I completely believe that is now canon.

Hah, you're so principled. I just use whatever icon I happen to like most, or one that's not very fandom specific. Well, perhaps the person who made yours just changed lj names or something.

They definitely are. I'm trying to remember just why and when we decided that.

Yeah, the whole "Zoe is pregnant" thing is a happy-ish ending that I've seen a couple of fics explore, but that's just the kind of thing that never really satisfies me. Like a) how convenient and b) it's still not Wash. I mean better than nothing and all, but it's still not my favorite wrap-up. It makes more sense than when it happened in Cold Mountain, at least. Heh, it's actually a trope: Someone to Remember Him By.

Eh, I don't think it's wrong to use an icon made by someone else as a default, just that it probably says more about you if it's an icon you made.

Well, I saw 28 Days Later for the first time in the summer of '08, so probably around then.

"Better than nothing at all"- that's pretty much where I leave it. Because, just like Kaylee, there should be someone who's a little Wash and a little Zoe in the world.

Oh, right, Conner on Angel, that was a time he had a baby. But I think that was due more to Charisma Carpenter being pregnant and not him wanting one on the show.

I wish I weren't such a night owl and an insomniac, because I actually love getting up in the morning too. But I always end up sleeping through a nice chunk of it.

I started messing around with customized layouts and it ate my brain for a while.

Yeah, there is that desire to stay up late just because you can when you don't have work in the morning, but which naturally results in missing part of said morning. I'm very annoyed that it's already after noon.

It's not even really a desire to stay up late for me. I don't know what it is, but it's like my internal clock is automatically set to Pacific Time or something. *laughs* I just naturally stay up later and later.

I just like the additional choice of customized layouts. And I tend to think they're nicer.
