This is nice. The air is like Jello.

1. Update on my love affair with Netflix, because I'm sure you care: I sent back Across the Universe yesterday and am waiting on Wristcutters: A Love Story (who told me about that one? I can't remember). Across the Universe was pretty good, though I would've appreciated a little more character development, instead of the movie basically just being a delivery system for covers of Beatles songs, well done or not. In any case, Jim Sturgess had a highly enjoyable Northern accent (I'm easy). I spent last night and this morning re-watching the first season of Better Off Ted- delightful, as always, and now I have Ted's voice stuck in my head (Veronica's too, oddly, they take turns), which has helped while I've been researching technical writing stuff.
2. Birthday shout-out for
fadeintodawn! If I hadn't been lame and realized her birthday was coming up sooner, I probably would've bought her ticket for the performance of Much Ado About Nothing we went to on Sunday. In any case, despite nearly sweating our brains out in the 90+-degree weather, the play was fine, as Much Ado has the tendency to be. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but it's really the one Shakespeare play I like purely on its own merit- for Beatrice and Benedick and their awesome snark, and Claudio and Hero's general adorability, and Dogberry's goofiness, and Don Pedro's coolness, etc. In any case,
fadeintodawn, I failed on the live theater tickets, so you'll have to make do with movie tickets sometime soon, just let me know.
3. Totally looking forward to the Epic Heroes Season One Re-Watch tonight. Man, it has been so long since I've watched any episodes that weren't relevant to my OTP interests. Like, "not since they aired" long. I'm hoping it'll get me good and jazzed up for my bigboom fic again, as the fic meme has definitely (if pleasantly) broken my momentum on that. I'm actually well over halfway to the 10,000 word minimum, which is somewhat comforting. However, the real action hasn't even started yet, which is not comforting. Anywho, whatever, I've got time, it'll get done.

THE FANMIX MEME ♫
Please to be giving many suggestions.
5. Though I really should be rationing my book intake, since all but one box of my library is in storage for the next two years (*sniffles*), I've been zipping right through The Truth, which is better than I remembered. I don't know why, but I really love that.. jeez, how can I put this? When a character who's a reporter, or a cop, or a private detective is really motivated to get to the bottom of whatever it is that's going on. That doggish determination to bring everything to light, sometimes for no more solid a reason than it's The Right Thing To Do or To Get The Story. I dunno, I guess I just find it romantic. And The Truth is great because you have William de Worde experiencing that for the very first time. Though I think Otto Chriek is my favorite- I know I'm enjoying a character when I find myself wanting to, or actually saying their lines out loud.
BONUS:

*takes out collapsible pointer* As you can see, I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. Furthermore, I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus. And in conclusion, goo goo g' joob. *collapses pointer*

Date: 2010-06-29 09:19 pm (UTC)I'm glad you're enjoying the Netflix! I need to actually watch both of the movies I've got and actually put it to use again.
Heroes rewatch is exciting! It'll be fun, I think.
The Truth is probably my favorite Pratchett book. No, it is; I love William, I love the investigation aspect (you should watch Z if you haven't, it's got that same feel to it and an absolutely adorable young reporter guy). Otto's the best, too.

Date: 2010-06-29 09:49 pm (UTC)There is a feeling of obligation that comes with that little red envelope, to be sure.
It'll be great! All our re-watches and discussion posts have been so far.
What is Z- a movie, TV show? You know, it's annoying that I can't think of another book/show/movie I own that has that element I like so much. Maybe State of Play, more or less. I've found myself 'shipping William and Otto a little bit. Because I am a dirty bad slasher.

Date: 2010-06-29 11:18 pm (UTC)Definitely happens that way. I might go for reducing it to one at a time. I mean I watch a lot of the Instant Play ones.
I hope so! I feel bad, the only reason we moved it to Tuesday is that I am not here on Mondays.
Z is a greek movie based on the assassination of an opposition leader in Greece back in the late 60's. Hee, I don't think I'd ever gone that way, but...interesting.

Date: 2010-06-30 02:06 am (UTC)Heh, I felt guilty for not watching Across the Universe twice, as I know any movie should properly be watched. I don't think I could deal with two at a time.
Eh, I think it worked out okay. Hopefully we can get a couple more folks in another week or two.
Hm, sounds neat! I'll see if I can add it to my queue. It's silly, it really is, and extremely hard to justify in any IC form, beyond perhaps Otto deciding to cut women vith zer heaving bosoms from his life entirely as part of his Black Ribboner commitment.

Date: 2010-06-30 02:17 am (UTC)Hmm,I only watch movies twice in a row when I'm going to listen to the commentary. Two at a time is just...intimidating.
I hope so! Someone wanted to move it to nine and I was considering it, but I realized that White Collar is coming back at 9pm on Tuesdays, so...ah, I'm abusing my rewatch organizer powers.
It's...odd, but it's a Costa-Gavras, who made a lot of good political-themed films. Aw, well, Otto is very devoted to William...and William is...kind of open minded, or at least he tries to be.

Date: 2010-06-30 02:41 am (UTC)Oh, I think you really need to see a movie twice if you're going to make a wholly informed decision on it.
Ye-eah, 9pm seemed to work better for some folks... who aren't White Collar fans like us.
Hm, okay. Heh, I kind of doubt William's self-imposed tolerance would extend quite that far, but, y'know, things don't work out with Sacharissa, maybe William gets curious about Uberwald, and and Otto spend a bit more time together...

Date: 2010-06-30 02:53 am (UTC)I think you're right, I just hardly ever have time to watch movies for the first time, much less the second. And by time I mean...ability to actually pay attention while not writing/reading/doing something else.
*sigh* I feel a little guilty.
I actually own it, I think. I know, but Sacharissa is so cool. It's so hard to slash within Discworld, Pratchett sets up relationships so well.

Date: 2010-06-30 03:02 am (UTC)Heh, well, I guess I'm a bit better about that.
Aw, come on now, you can't please everyone all the time.
That's cool. Yeah, Sacharissa isn't my favorite, so I guess that makes it a bit easier. And, well, y'know, vampires can be fun that way. "They didn't always scream" and such.

Date: 2010-06-30 02:12 am (UTC)Also, I lovelovelove Across the Universe. Even if it is, like you said, pretty much a vehicle for the Beatles songs. Julie Taymor is an awesome director; I'd like to see some more of her stuff.
LOL at that Venn Diagram. It totally works!

Date: 2010-06-30 02:37 am (UTC)It's a very pretty vehicle, that's for sure. Just would've appreciated a little more attention to real life. Julie Taymor's done some cool stuff- I'd like to sit down and watch her version of Titus Andronicus sometime.
Doesn't it? It's fantastic.

Date: 2010-06-30 03:40 am (UTC)If I get around to that Netflix subscription, I will definitely watch Better Off Ted.
And I enjoy Much Ado. :) Beatrice and Benedick bring great snark.

They do indeed, and it doesn't stop when they hook up either, which is greatly appreciated.
