Hey, folks, how have the first few days of 2010 been for everyone? Mine have been fine, watching TV and movies and trying to seriously sit down and really push through the Plaude!Shrek. It comes in fits and starts- I hit a wall and have to take a few days figuring out how to get over it, barrel through another scene and ignore it for a while. It will get done, for sure, one way or another.

Anyway, today I'll be headed for the mall to deal with the misses among the Christmas gift hits. I'll be glad to get it done, though I'd really rather not head out into the vicious wind that's whipping around today.

I caught Doctor Who's "End of Time" arc, happily enough. I've been terrible about keeping up with that show. Anyway, it was good, I guess. Bit of a let-down with what happened to the Time Lords in the.. where were they? The Time Lock? Sure. And the Master, though I liked that we got a genuine moment between him and the Doctor where he stopped acting like a complete lunatic and actually seemed like a real person (I'm not super into Doctor/Master as a pairing, but during that scene? Yeah, the subtext/text line was pretty darn blurry). As painful as it was, I loved that Wilf was the one who knocked four times. Very unexpected to me, but just right. Wilf is so lovely, and it was great to see him running around with the Doctor instead of the typical gorgeous young woman. Their conversations in the pub in Part I and on the spaceship in Part II are amazing, really reminded me how great David Tennant is as the Doctor. And he is. I've had my doubts in the past *cough*tinkerbelljesus*cough*, but he's done a fantastic job. And though, yeah, it kind of went on a bit, I liked his little silent goodbyes to his companions (Jack/Alonso- say it with me now, d'awww). We'll see about this Matt Smith fellow. I will say this for Eleven so far- his apparent catchphrase (GERONIMO!) beats the holy living hell out of Ten's (I'm sorry, I'm so sorry).

Quick question, have there been any pictures of the new TARDIS interior? I was surprised to hear they'd be changing it. I'm just hoping it's not going to be all bright and slick like in the reboot Enterprise. There's nothing wrong with that, I just feel like the TARDIS should be a bit warmer and more textured.

I watched District 9 and The Brothers Bloom this weekend, and... yeah, it'd be hard to find two more different movies without dipping into the Disney library. District 9 was incredibly intense, just absolutely non-stop, and thankfully not nearly as preachy as I worried it might be. Poor, poor Wikus- he so very did not deserve what happened to him. Jeez. Anyway, I don't think I'm going to rush out and buy this one, but I think it's definitely worth renting at least once.

As for The Brothers Bloom... it might be too quirky for some people, and I need to remember I don't have a huge fondness for movies about con artists. It gets me all paranoid waiting for the ultimate twist to come and Character A to find out Character B has in fact been conning Character A the whole time when Character A thought the opposite was true. Maybe other people enjoy that kind of thing, but it bugs me overall. In any case, Rachel Weisz is pretty adorable in it, as is Adrien Brody. And Rinko Kikuchi just plain rocks (Is it weird that I felt like Rachel Weisz's character had more chemistry with her character than Adrien Brody's? Probably). Oh, also? I NEED THE SOUNDTRACK LIKE OXYGEN. It's so awesome- kind of jazzy and sweet, almost vaudevillian, which makes sense. Also also, in the movie the kind of main villain is played by Maximillian Schell, who will forever and always be my Hamlet thanks to the terrible version of the play he starred in that was riffed by MST3K.

So, that's that. I feel like reviving this meme, so here goes:

You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in comments. (examples: "Five Times the Middleman Cursed," or "Five Things Peter Won't Ever Tell Claude," or "Five Things the Devil Didn't Invent (But Wishes He Did)"). Then, in a separate post, I'll post the answers to your Top 5 ideas, according to me. Serious or fun!

It's really weird: I did a post last night that's really similar to this, discussing "The End of Time" and a movie I saw (The Princess and the Frog). Coincidence? Yes, probably.

Plaude!Shrek?! Yes, please! Claude is Shrek, Peter is Fiona, but who is Donkey? It'll probably end up being Sylar or somebody...

Anyway, it was good, I guess. Bit of a let-down with what happened to the Time Lords in the.. where were they? The Time Lock? Sure. And the Master, though I liked that we got a genuine moment between him and the Doctor where he stopped acting like a complete lunatic and actually seemed like a real person

I completely agree with this and pretty much your entire review of the episode. I said in mine that the whole Master/Timelords story line was a cocktease. It was like, "So you lure us in with he promise of the Timelords' return and then shove them right back?" I think it was there to tie up some angsty loose ends or something. I also really liked the Master there at the end, and I don't like him quite as much as other people do (he's a bit ridiculous). And Timothy Dalton was strangely yummy as Lord President (especially for an old guy).

And he is.

THIS. WORD. Just...YES. I love Wilf, and I really hope we see him again. He's just awesome! I think he should be a regular companion. Like you said, his scenes with Ten really made realized how much I was going to miss Ten, and I guess that's what a proper swan song episode should do I'm looking at you, Heroes.

And though, yeah, it kind of went on a bit, I liked his little silent goodbyes to his companions (Jack/Alonso- say it with me now, d'awww).

Yes, definitely. For some reason, I kept thinking, "Martha has such nice hair." And Jack/Alonso is too adorable for words! Jack and his woobies---that's all I have to say about that. But wasn't it odd how just about every monster from Ten's tenure was in that bar? I think they consulted George Lucas for that scene...

I think Matt Smith looks like a ton of fun. I'm worried about how the TARDIS will look, though.

As for the meme: "Five Times Nine Almost Told Peter The Truth."

Heh, I think we've all got movies on the brain. I'm really hoping to see Sherlock Holmes some time this week.

Yes, Plaude!Shrek. It's coming along- I'd say I'm a good two-thirds done. Just got to work out how the climax is supposed to go. I will say that Donkey is not Sylar, but in fact had his role divided between two other characters, because of who ended up playing the Dragon.

I was happy to get a little more backstory on what the Doctor actually did during the Time War, though, yeah, it really ended up being mostly a tease. The Master definitely lost some points for me when he was just jumping around, cackling and throwing lightning bolts and devouring things in Part I, but he got them back in Part II. Heh, if you liked Timothy Dalton here, you should see him in Hot Fuzz. In one of the commentaries, the director Edgar Wright mentions that one of the (I think) editors of the film said, "Timothy Dalton looks like a cartoon fox!" which I think is one of the truer statements ever made.

his scenes with Ten really made realized how much I was going to miss Ten
Absolutely. Like, when he almost starts crying in the pub? That freaking killed me. You could just feel his fear and sorrow and helplessness and everything. I re-watched Part I just for that.

Heh, I wasn't so sure about Martha's braids, but I guess it's sweet that she ended up with Mickey. Though, do you know why they were fighting Sontarans? I didn't watch the second episode of that arc. I loved the Star Wars-esque cantina with all the familiar alien faces! And did you notice that- what's the song? "Bad Angel?" from the NYC arc was playing? That was great.

Thanks very much for the prompt! I'll get to work on it.
