This is nice. The air is like Jello.
Jun. 29th, 2010 05:09 pm1. Update on my love affair with Netflix, because I'm sure you care: I sent back Across the Universe yesterday and am waiting on Wristcutters: A Love Story (who told me about that one? I can't remember). Across the Universe was pretty good, though I would've appreciated a little more character development, instead of the movie basically just being a delivery system for covers of Beatles songs, well done or not. In any case, Jim Sturgess had a highly enjoyable Northern accent (I'm easy). I spent last night and this morning re-watching the first season of Better Off Ted- delightful, as always, and now I have Ted's voice stuck in my head (Veronica's too, oddly, they take turns), which has helped while I've been researching technical writing stuff.
2. Birthday shout-out for
fadeintodawn! If I hadn't been lame and realized her birthday was coming up sooner, I probably would've bought her ticket for the performance of Much Ado About Nothing we went to on Sunday. In any case, despite nearly sweating our brains out in the 90+-degree weather, the play was fine, as Much Ado has the tendency to be. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but it's really the one Shakespeare play I like purely on its own merit- for Beatrice and Benedick and their awesome snark, and Claudio and Hero's general adorability, and Dogberry's goofiness, and Don Pedro's coolness, etc. In any case,
fadeintodawn, I failed on the live theater tickets, so you'll have to make do with movie tickets sometime soon, just let me know.
3. Totally looking forward to the Epic Heroes Season One Re-Watch tonight. Man, it has been so long since I've watched any episodes that weren't relevant to my OTP interests. Like, "not since they aired" long. I'm hoping it'll get me good and jazzed up for my bigboom fic again, as the fic meme has definitely (if pleasantly) broken my momentum on that. I'm actually well over halfway to the 10,000 word minimum, which is somewhat comforting. However, the real action hasn't even started yet, which is not comforting. Anywho, whatever, I've got time, it'll get done.

5. Though I really should be rationing my book intake, since all but one box of my library is in storage for the next two years (*sniffles*), I've been zipping right through The Truth, which is better than I remembered. I don't know why, but I really love that.. jeez, how can I put this? When a character who's a reporter, or a cop, or a private detective is really motivated to get to the bottom of whatever it is that's going on. That doggish determination to bring everything to light, sometimes for no more solid a reason than it's The Right Thing To Do or To Get The Story. I dunno, I guess I just find it romantic. And The Truth is great because you have William de Worde experiencing that for the very first time. Though I think Otto Chriek is my favorite- I know I'm enjoying a character when I find myself wanting to, or actually saying their lines out loud.
BONUS: ( Across the Universe got me thinking of my favorite Venn Diagram ever. )
