Dude, there's no way I could choose one favorite album. Every album has some songs I'm nuts about and/or some some songs I could take or leave and/or some songs I don't like (and have probably deleted). Maybe one day I'll find a perfect album that I love every bit of, but that day hasn't come yet. Therefore, I will instead share a song from my first album, the first one I actually bought myself because I heard some of it and thought it was cool. Actually, the first album I ever owned myself was the soundtrack to the movie Now and Then (don't judge me), but this one's a little more special. Also, it has a better story.

I was probably around twelve years old. "Everything You Want" by Vertical Horizon had caught my attention on the radio/VH1/wherever, and one day I borrowed the CD from a girl in my summer camp group. Unfortunately, that day she left early and I forgot to give the CD back to her. I think it was either the last day of camp, or she just didn't stay for the whole thing, because I never saw her again. I kept the CD and brought it to camp next year, but she didn't show up. By that point I had bought a copy of my own because I felt bad listening to hers, but it stayed in my nightstand drawer for a long time. I remember looking at it next to my copy and seeing how the orange had stayed bright on hers while mine had faded. Anyway, Everything You Want was the first album I got really into, the way teenagers get into music. That song was about me and my mom, that song was about me and that one ex-friend- it got me through some hard times. I've checked out their other albums, but none really grabbed me like Everything You Want. So, here, have the first track We Are, and think of little tween me sitting in the backseat of a car with cheap headphones on and a CD player on my knee.

As is usually the case, I just found out today that Bones and Fringe will be having their season premieres tonight. Seriously, that almost always happens- I never really know when my shows are coming back on, I just stumble across the information completely at random and I'm like, "Oh yeah, cool! Well, thank goodness I found out." I'm a bad fan. Anyway, Bones is going to have to work hard to keep my attention this season- I haven't even bothered to watch the entire finale from the last one. I'm way more excited about Fringe, for spoilery reasons. I'm crossing my fingers that a certain thing or two happens but not holding out much hope, as one should do with this kind of show.

Also, I've been hearing about the frustrating situation trying to get Don't Ask Don't Tell repealed. *sigh* Every day I get more saddened and angered by the state of equality in this country. And since I recently watched Kinsey, I'm especially riled up about people who treat sexual diversity as a crime instead of the perfectly natural aspect of humanity it is. So, if you have the time, please sign this letter to the Attorney General asking him not to appeal the federal court decision that DADT is unconstitutional. Thanks.

I always loved "Best I Ever Had" from that album.

I've been catching up on shows all week! I think the only thing I actually watched in its proper time slot was Modern Family. Otherwise it's been DVR, Hulu, and downloads.

All the stuff with DADT this week is really pissing me off. I don't even think it's necessarily a sign of the state of equality in this country-- gay marriage, yes, but the vast majority of Americans want DADT repealed. I think it's almost 80% of Americans are in support of ending the policy. But the Senate can't get it through. While the overall population does have its issues with bigotry and prejudice, I think this is mostly a case of how recently our legislative bodies (especially the Senate) just aren't working.

Ah ha, Jack. That is totally what he would do as the Old Spice man.

Mm, wonderful sappy break-up song, that one.

*sigh* How I long for the days when I had a DVR...

Well, it's a sign of the inequality in our country by the fact that it exists and has been used to discharge soldiers who were doing valuable work. But, yeah, eighty freaking percent- how can anybody in their right minds want to keep a law that 80% of all American citizens wants gone?

I don't think I have ever heard that song before. I think at around that age I still wasn't really into music, or listening to the radio, so that may have been why. But it's interesting, the songs you end up associating with things.

As for the political situation in general..."I give up" is just pretty apt. I mean I don't, but...kinda.

I don't think it was a single, so I'm not surprised. I'm sure everyone has to come to music naturally, and find for themselves what speaks to them. I'm glad I found a mostly mediocre but not quite dime-a-dozen alt rock band.

Aw, don't say that. Maybe we'll get lucky and things will improve before they get any worse. It's still possible.
