Hm, this is an interesting one. I dunno- I bet most people look at me and probably think my musical tastes start somewhere around Regina Spektor and end at A Fine Frenzy, so I'd say almost all of my library might surprise.. someone *shrugs*. I try not to be a snob about it, but I do like when I can find cool stuff I've never heard of before.
It may sound kind of weird, but it's like an opportunity to step back and think about the twists and turns of your life that have brought you in contact with that particular piece of music. Like I probably never would have heard about The Real Tuesday Weld if I didn't watch that one Shawn/Lassiter fanvid way back when. And if I hadn't been in that one H&M store at that one particular time, I may never have heard The Rifles. I wouldn't have found Slavic Soul Party! if I didn't read that one Live Free or Die Hard fanfic. I'd never have known Chumbawumba did a song as awesome as Don't Try This At Home if I didn't watch Revengers Tragedy, which I wouldn't have seen if I didn't become a fan of CE, which I wouldn't have done if I didn't watch Heroes and/or Doctor Who.
So, anyway, hey let's dig deep. Talk about odd, I remember this song primarily from the soundtrack of the Pauly Shore/Stephen Baldwin vehicle Bio-Dome. Years later, Dirty Jobs came along, and used it for their theme song, which inspired me to track it down for myself. It's We Care a Lot by Faith No More, and it pretty much rocks. And I'm fairly certain it would give people a bit of a turn if they heard me listening to it.

Date: 2010-09-18 10:48 pm (UTC)Man, if I hadn't watched Gilmore Girls and found MV to be entirely adorable, I probably wouldn't have watched Heroes. And if I hadn't watched Heroes, I wouldn't have...gotten into fandom like I did, certainly, even beyond never quite realizing who CE was. That doesn't have much to do with music, except that without fanmixes my range in music choices would've been seriously limited.

Date: 2010-09-19 12:34 am (UTC)I know, weird isn't it, when you think about it? I don't know who I'd be without fandom, but probably not someone I'd like to hang out with.

Date: 2010-09-19 12:56 am (UTC)Heh. I feel like I'd be a lot more studious, but a lot less happy. And probably much less open minded.

Date: 2010-09-19 02:32 am (UTC)Maybe I'd be more social, but I really think I would've missed out on a lot of great stuff.
