Light a fire under your nerds.

Well, I managed to hang on to my fancy asst. editor job, just barely. I got through about sixty submissions in two days, with a handful more to go through by Saturday. Unsurprisingly, my muse is a little shellshocked. So, I'm thinking a meme or two might help.

Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Peter got pizza instead of making grilled cheese") or big (e.g. "and then Claude agreed to the Devil's offer") and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story.

And/or:

Give me a prompt for a five-sentence fic.

Also, White Collar, Dollhouse, and Better Off Ted- big thumbs up. Excellent television right there.

I'm glad you were able to finish your reading. That would've been quite the challenge. *hug*

Hmm... How about Olive and Claude? Conversation over pie?

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, tough pair, hmmm...

The blonde pixie behind the counter sighs, "Do you ever feel completely invisible?"

Claude blinks over his slice of cranberry-cherry. Follows her doleful gaze to the lanky special and his two friends, and back to her. "Y'can do better, love."

A car pulls up and Claude goes for his wallet, only to have it waved away by a megawatt smile.

*squee*

I love the way you write Olive (and the entire Pushing Daisies universe. You always get it right). Thank you!

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
XD Funny you should say that, since I'm always terrified of writing Olive (and the entire Pushing Daisies universe). Heh, thanks very much!

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Good job, you in getting your work done!

For the first meme: would it be too completely missing the point to ask what would've happened if Claude hadn't gotten killed in the Major West/Peter fic?

As for the second one: I'm in an incredibly odd mood, but I kind of want to see Claude taking care of a baby. Could be Claire, Abby, some random child, whichever.

Also I've yet to see the newest White Collar. I've read enough about it to be concerned.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
More or less! White Collar.. well, I think they tried a certain plot twist too early, but I seriously doubt they'll follow through on it, so it's okay.

Hee, well, I don't know about missing the point, but... I think, if Claude had lived, there probably would've been some extremely quiet reunion!sex, much to West's irritation.

We've got Daddy Claude on the brain real bad, don't we? Okay, here we go...

"Give 'er here before you hurt yourself," Claude snaps and gathers the squirming, fussing baby girl from Bennet's clumsy hands. He drapes her against his shoulder, murmuring, "Shhh, sh shh. That's a good girl, that's a good Abby-love."

Bennet squints, "Who's Abby, Claude?"

Claude's throat closes painfully.

I'll get around to watching it once I'm actively supposed to be doing something else.

*laughs* And here I wanted some Claude/West sniping at each other. Like a lot. Two CE characters going at each other (no, not in that way, although, you know, maybe) is right up there with daddy!Claude as a fun thing to imagine.

Speaking of: awww. Aww, Claude. I could really buy it, too, that the reason he was so protective of Claire was because he didn't get a chance with Abby and felt badly about it. I feel like writing some Claude & Abby stuff again but I never quite feel like I'm the right person to do it.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Naturally.

Oh, there was plenty of that- all the way from the prison, in fact. Peter basically had to distract Claude with sex to get him and West to lay off each other.

Put Abby on Claude's version of Serenity! You know you want to. They can have a whole "estranged niece getting to know her space cowboy smuggler uncle" dynamic!

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm just shocked I haven't caved already.

*laughs* That's fun too.

Oh, she's totally in. I moved from it being Bennet/Sandra/Claire centric to it now being Sparrow/West/Abby/Lee full.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, just like me and the new episode of Bones I recorded. And The Prisoner. And Top Gear.

Yes, but harder to write. Although I kind of like the fact that West apparently can't get along with any other CE!character.

I couldn't be happier to hear that.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, that The Prisoner show. I remember the previews for it.

*laughs* Well, most of CE's characters are kind of hard to get along with. Either they're straight-up skeevy, invisible and misanthropic, or the Son of God.

Sparrow and West are my Zoe and Wash surrogates at the moment. *laughs* I'm not going to make them try to line up exactly, but the same feel...

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I watched the first couple episodes, and.. it's not really the kind of show you can start and not finish.

Except for Jim. Poor, dear Jim. And I guess DCI Bilborough.

Fantastic. Claude could use a good Zoe-type in his life.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. It does look very involved.

Oh, Jim. I think he's probably better off than DCI Bilborough, at least. He got a family etc.

And West could fly the ship ;)

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh it is. But it's got Ian McKellan, and Ruth Wilson (my favorite Jane Eyre).

He's less of a.. well, twat, then DCI Bilborough, I think.

He totally could! I like him as Wash even more than Sparrow as Zoe.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, well, that probably helps. It's on one of the cable channels, right?

Aw. DCI Bilborough was just so young, I think he kind of had to be a bit of a twat. I think he would've grown out of it.

I was so proud of me for that idea. Although it is rather obvious.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
(Gah, jeez, don't know where this comment disappeared to. Anyway...)

Yeah, it's on AMC. Though it doesn't appear to be airing again any time soon, unfortunately. I might have to swing by iTunes for the other episodes.

True enough, true enough. Once he established himself, he'd normal off.

Only obvious because it's so good.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-17 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
(It was probably in that weird time where comment notifications were getting lost)

Oh, I hate it when that happens. Although I wouldn't go to iTunes, I'd go somewhere a lot less legitimate.

Yes. Which is what I'm sure happened. When he lived happily ever after, no question.

Heh. I have a similarly good (or really obvious, either way) idea for Claude's backstory. I'm kind of looking forward to this and, of course, I'm not going to get to actually write it for weeks.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-18 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll see. The less legitimates might not have it- I haven't checked.

No question whatsoever. He became the beloved hardbitten leader with a heart of gold, exactly like Sam Vimes.

Oh boy! You better be looking forward to it- I know I'd be if it was mine.
