Oct. 17th, 2009 06:44 pmUgh, okay, I think I'm done reading crappy stories for the day. Welcome to the glamorous life of an assistant fiction editor. I'm pretty sure I'm like the front line for submissions- I read eeeverything, and pick out what's decent. Which is weird, because since freaking when am I qualified to do that? I must not have been paying attention. Though, maybe that's kind of a good thing. I'd say I represent the average reader of Prick of the Spindle fairly well, so I can roughly guess what I'd be happy to see show up on the site. Kind of a control group- completely unsophisticated, with no lingering biases that I can recognize. But now my brain hurts and I want to go back to my own story for a little while. I'll do more tomorrow, my last day of freedom before I saddle myself with an eleven-hour workday (adding in commute time, which could be even longer, I don't know yet) to match the 60+ submissions that still need reading. Holy crap, what have I gotten myself into?
Moving on! Something that made me happy today: spotting Matt Keeslar in the '60s surf movie spoof Psycho Beach Party on TV. That's a fun flick- very odd, pretty funny, and with lots of people like Matt Keeslar you can point to and say, "Oh hey, that guy/girl! Awesome!" Good times.
