Summary: For this prompt on [livejournal.com profile] 1stclass_kink, basically when Erik gets on a mutant supremacy tear Charles loses his patience and puts a whammy on him. So, warnings for someone rummaging around in someone else's mind without permission.

“I don’t understand you, Charles, you said so yourself,” Erik is standing now, pacing around the study. He doesn’t notice how still his friend has gone. “When a species superior in its evolution than its predecessor comes into being, inevitably the predecessor is destroyed. It’s natural selection, it happens every day.” He gestures with his brandy glass towards the darkened windows, “You might as well make the sun rise at night if you want to change it. Homo sapiens’ day has come- why waste tears on an obsolete model? They brought it on themselves, can’t you-?”

Erik is sitting at the kitchen table. Looking down, he finds there is a mug of steaming coffee before him. Looking further, he finds he is wearing different clothes. He looks up, and sees morning light shining on the walls around Charles’ face. He is watching Erik, eyes unreadable. “Charles,” he murmurs in confusion, “What has happened, just now? I... we were...”

“My friend,” Charles intones, “I’ve stolen something very precious from you. About thirty hours of your life. They are gone forever.”

“You did what?” Erik’s brow knits as his mind races to recall anything after their conversation in the study. He finds not even a void. Only the seamless stitching of this moment to that.

“I’m sorry,” Charles voice is trembling, drawing Erik’s attention. The other man’s eyes now shine with tears, “There was no reason... I was angry. I try so hard never to...” He shakes his head, looks away, takes a shuddering breath, “I’m sorry.”

Silence fills the kitchen. A clock on the wall ticks. Erik finds himself listening very closely to it, committing ever second to memory, as if to make certain he can. “I didn’t know you could do that.”

“Because I never should,” Charles snaps, eyes blazing, “Because it is wrong! No man should ever be able to... Erik, you say we are better men. I say to you the times are rare indeed I feel anything but cursed.”

He shoves himself away from the table, standing and marching from the kitchen. Erik stays seated. He has never felt so weak.
