You saw the mistress, I beheld the maid.
Got a very cool

Five favorite beta or ambiguously canon relationships (link goes to TVtropes)
I love beta couples! Honestly, I tend to find them more interesting than the main couples, maybe because the characters aren't as fully developed (because character development can sometimes mean draping him/her/them in cliches).
1. Christiana/Roland from A Knight's Tale. These two have no more than three teeny tiny moments you have to keep your eyes peeled to catch, butI have convinced myself they are there. Look for A) when Christiana comes to tell William and Co. Jocelyn’s name and deliver the handkerchief token thing (Roland’s mouth drops open at the sight of her and Geoff taps it shut), B) when William and Jocelyn have their falling out over flowers and sticks, and C) when Christiana comes to tell William to win the tournament for Jocelyn. Itty bitty little moments in the lives of people who serve others, but lovely just the same.
2. Dubey/Alice from Monsoon Wedding. These two actually get a quite a bit of screen time... or maybe I just pay waaay more attention to them than the slightly annoying leads. Anyway, he's the wedding planner and she's the servant of the family with the daughter getting married. Falling for Alice transforms Dubey from this kind of jerky guy into quite the sweetheart. They're super adorkable and awkward together too- always fun.
3. Jill/Jimmy from The Whole Nine Yards. I really love this movie, I used to watch it all the time. And the romance that's only hinted at until the very end between Jimmy Tudeski (mob hitman on the run after selling out his old boss) and Jill St. Claire (fledgling hitwoman) is both sweet and very hot. Bruce Willis and Amanda Peet have great chemistry.
4. Jane/Bingley from Pride and Prejudice. To be fair, I'm mostly thinking of the 2005 movie, where Rosamund Pike and Simon Woods are weapons-grade cute together. Other people have made the interesting point that within the world of Pride and Prejudice Jane/Bingley is really the alpha couple, while Elizabeth/Darcy is the beta couple, much like how in Much Ado About Nothing, all the characters’ attention is mostly on Hero/Claudio while the audience is more interested in Beatrice/Benedick.
5. Ben/Nina from Reaper. I am SO going to finish re-watching the second season. I really don't know what's stopping me. It can't be the wonderfulness of Ben and Nina's relationship. Again, adorable characters being super adorable together. You know, when Nina's not a huge black bat-winged demon trying to kill Sam.
Honorable Mentions:
- Li Mu Bai/Yu Shu Lien from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Only not included because they're really co-alpha couples with Jen Yu/Lo. Anyway, so romantic, so tragic. This one's for the UST kink.
- Nerissa/Gratiano from Merchant of Venice. I should really read the play sometime soon. This is going by the 2004 film version, where Gratiano is kind of the goofy asshole friend of Bassanio and Nerissa's the sensible but sly maid to Portia. Anyway, they're cute flirting in the background.
- Jenny/Barry from My Super Ex-Girlfriend. DON'T JUDGE ME. I saw it ONCE. And it was 97% crap, but the very end, the big reveal, the realization- that part was nice. (And I bet at least a few comic book hero/villain slashers wish their OTPs could end the same way.) Besides, who doesn't want to see Uma Thurman vigorously making out with Eddie Izzard, amirite?
*sigh* If I'm smart, I will clean today. Like a real clean, not just vacuuming the kitchen and wiping down the trouble spots in the bathroom. Come on, self, you can listen to music while you do it, it'll be nice.

I will have to pay more attention the next time I watch A Knight's Tale, because I have completely missed those moments.
I do remember Dubey and Alice from Monsoon Wedding, though; I believe she was Christan, which I thought was interesting, and i remember thinking their whole little side story was rather sweet.
And Ben/Nina, obviously, is just about perfect. So full of sweet fluffiness and the two of them are as adorable as puppies together.

Do! The third moment isn't much more than some glancing eye contact, but the first and
thirdblah, second moments are adorable.I didn't know you saw Monsoon Wedding! I love that movie, I'm always grinning by the end of it. Anyway, yeah, woo Alice/Dubey!
It's fun to hear in interviews with the show creators that the Ben role was supposed to quite different, but Rick Gonzalez ended up really making it his own. His own being adorable, apparently.

Heh, it's on often enough on TBS, isn't it? I'll keep an eye out. That one, at least, is definitely worth rewatching.
I did! Years ago, but I did enjoy it.
Aw, I know. He was on Castle a while back, just as adorable, if a little slow.

Hee, that is one that seems to turn up on TV fairly frequently. Anyone who says it's no good at all hates fun.
I love it, so much fun, without being really melodramatic the way some Bollywood films are.
Pretty much anyone from Reaper, I'm glad to hear it when they're in something else.

And life. I mean, it's not historically accurate or anything, but who needs that? Wash is in it, all red-haired and dorky!
Yeah, and there even is some singing and dancing, but it doesn't take you out of it completely. I think there really only is the one song, actually.
Yeah, it's a shame Brett Harrison's new show was canceled, it had started growing on me.

No, it's definitely better to imagine it being more or less a fantasy film. Just with less magic and more anachronistic music and clothes.
Yeah, there's one song and dance performance, but it's not like it just appears out of nowhere musical-like. And there are some other bits where people sing, but again, not entirely like a musical.
Aw, yeah, heard about that. Poor guy.

AND CHRISTIANA AND ROLAND. AND JILL/JIMMY. REALLY, ALL OF THEM.
AHHHH.

"PAIN! LOTS AND LOTS OF PAIN!" ALAN TUDYK AS A GINGER. NEKKID!PAUL BETTANY. MY DARLINGEST HEAAAAATH. AH, MY HEART.
AND BRUCE WILLIS. BRUCE WILLIS IS THE MAN. I'VE WATCHED EVERY MOVIE HE'S EVER BEEN IN. SO AB FAB. AND I HAVE A SOFT SPOT FOR MATTHEW PERRY. AND MICHAEL CLARK DUNCAN!
EVERYTHING INDIAN IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND MELODRAMATIC AND HOW ARE THOSE LADIES SO GORGEOUS AND HOW WAS THAT FAMILY SO HEARTBREAKING AND THEN DUVEY KEPT EATING THE MARIGOLDS AHHHH MY HEART AND THAT HOXY GUY WHO SHOWED UP AT THE VERY END OF THE WEDDING WITH THE GLASSES AND THE DRIPPING WET AND AHHHH.
no subject
MATTHEW PERRY IS BRILLIANT IN THE WHOLE NINE YARDS, JUST PURE COMIC BRILLIANCE. HE PLAYS SO INCREDIBLY WELL OFF BRUCE'S STONE COLD (but slightly insane) BAMF-ERY. AND AMANDA PEET IS JUST PRECIOUS, EVEN WHEN SHE'S KILLING PEOPLE.
UNF THAT GUY WITH THE GLASSES AT THE END, TOTALLY WROTE A WHOLE HIM/REA FIC IN MY HEAD IN THAT INSTANT. BUT ALICE/DUBEY IS SO BEAUTIFULLY FAIRY TALE WITH THE MARIGOLDS AND WHEN HE FIRST BUMPS INTO HER AND EVERYTHING GOES ALL SLOW AND THE MUSIC IS GORGEOUS (I've tried to find that song, no luck). AND- AND- AND HE PROTECTED HER FROM BEING ACCUSED OF STEALING, AND WHEN HE BROODED MANFULLY IN THE HOT INDIAN TWILIGHT I ALMOST DIED.

JANE AND BINGLEY ARE THE CUTEST EVER. Especially in that version, they make me go gushy and girly more than Darcy/Elizabeth. The part where he's practicing his proposal? ADORABLE.

SO CUTE.
