If he'd said "crab boat" it would've been perfect.

Honestly, though, I did recently find out that I was born and raised in the fifth richest county in the country. Ye-eah... *fidgets under mink coat of privilege*

Anywho, meme! From [livejournal.com profile] zombres:

• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
• Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

1. If you could make one slash or crack pairing canon, which would you choose?

Heh, well, knee-jerk answer would be Peter/Claude, from Heroes, had the show not run itself so deep into the ground it could taste mantle. Otherwise, how cool would it be if they really tried for Peter/Neal/El on White Collar? If they made a serious attempt at depicting a stable polyamorous relationship on television... that just so happened to include an FBI agent and a reformed(ish) con man? Also, I'm sure that if Lassiter on Psych was a woman, she and Shawn would be if not together, at least well into the "will they, won't they" phase. If they went for it, I would almost definitely start watching again. Same goes for House and Wilson.

2. Who's your favourite Doctor so far?

Hmm. Here I must admit that I've only made one attempt at watching Classic!Who. It was a Four episode, and... it really didn't do much for me, sad to say. Couldn't get a handle on the plot, the alien costumes were pathetically bad, it seemed to be about four hours long- it just didn't work. So, that said, between Nine, Ten, and Eleven... Eleven, quite honestly. I really think Matt Smith has done the best job of capturing the ancient, absurd, crazy, dorky, friendly, angry, sorrowful, hopeful, damaged, arrogant, fairy tale nature of the Doctor just a hair better than CE, and maybe two hairs better than Tennant.

3. You could pick one old movie to have a big budget remake: which would you choose and who would you cast?

Okay, I thought about this a lot when I was supposed to be working today, and I decided on Holiday. The cast for my version would be:
Johnny Case... Brendan Hines (someone appropriately "aw shucks," but with some fire in him)
Linda Seton... Michelle Monaghan (someone with a lot more fire in her, but not incapable of insecurity)
Julia Seton... Kirsten Dunst (all nice and delicate on the outside, but sharp on the inside)
Ned Seton... Alan Tudyk (he could handle Neddy's sarcastic one-liners, along with the quiet booze-soaked desperation)
Edward Seton... Bob Gunton (I was looking for someone... obtuse)
Nick Potter... Stephen Rea (rumpled and hangdog and funny- check, check, and check)
Susan Elliott Potter... Penelope Wilton (sweet and sly and maternal- check, check, and check)

4. What's your dream job?

*sigh* What a depressing question in this day and age. If I'd applied myself in high school and college, I might actually have a job like that. An editor for fiction novels, that always seemed like it'd be pretty awesome.

5. What superpower would you like to have the most?

Stop time. Mostly just so I could read the books and watch the movies/TV and listen to the music/podcasts and cook the food I've been meaning to, but yeah.

Also, I'm sure that if Lassiter on Psych was a woman, she and Shawn would be if not together, at least well into the "will they, won't they" phase.

Oh, completely. Shawn would have already gotten into those tailored pants by now if Lassiter had been a girl.

Here I must admit that I've only made one attempt at watching Classic!Who.

I have only watched Two from Classic!Who. It's hard to get past the sheer corniness.

Okay, I thought about this a lot when I was supposed to be working today, and I decided on Holiday.

I must confess: I hope that film is never remade. /laugh/ Sorry! But the chemistry between Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn couldn't be duplicated and i'm afraid everything else would seem stale in comparison. I'd much rather see something that failed in the past attempted now, if only because it would have to be improved.

I suppose: Come at me, bro.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
It would be so hot too. It would... well, basically be Castle/Beckett, now that I think about it, but whatever.

I feel crappy about it, because people talk about how great Two and Four and Five are, and I really did try, but it was just so bad...

1. Name your favorite thing about where you live.
2. You could pick one old movie to have a big budget remake: which would you choose and who would you cast? ;)
3. What was your favorite cartoon as a child?
4. What's your favorite article of clothing?
5. Which would you rather have be real: magic, or aliens?

2. You could pick one old movie to have a big budget remake: which would you choose and who would you cast? ;)

Oh... you suck... [laugh] I suppose the spirit of the question is to choose a favorite old film of mine, and not just some random crappy movie? ;)

I'll get to these on Thursday since that's my day off. Very interesting questions. :)

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it doesn't say favorite, but I would suggest going for a movie you have actually seen, rather than just picking one at random. Makes the casting process much easier.

It totally should have been crab boat

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, does Maryland really have that reputation for being rich? I would've gone with Connecticut for that.

Come at me bro!

I'm not sure if I would have wanted Peter/Claude to be canon on Heroes, if only because they regularly did such a good job at ruining pairings I actually liked. I would've liked to make more interaction and/or friendship canon, but actual relationship, nooo. I do think Peter/El/Neal would be great to see played out; even if it wasn't functional (because there's enough trust issues to keep it from being fully functional), it would be basically what's on screen anyway, with less need for female guest stars to hook up with Neal.

I'm not sure who I would pick, between Eleven and Nine, but I do think the Eleven episodes are more enjoyable on their own merits.

I've been wondering if I could use time-stopping to catch up on my sleep. Probably not, right? You'd have to be conscious. Hmm. Anyway.

Sorry, ignore that first reply! Here's yours:

I guess so. Something to do with being so close to DC and all those companies with government contracts, possibly.

You’re right, of course. Though I specified if it hadn’t run itself into the ground, maybe they would have managed something better than what we got. Also, yeah, Neal and the Burkes probably wouldn’t be able to get over all their issues until they were all retired, unfortunately. But it would be interesting seeing them try.

It was tough to choose, but... I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Matt Smith does a better job giving off the feeling of a 900-year-old being, balancing that with the humor and dorkiness, etc.

Hey, it’s your superpower.

1. What has been your favorite vacation?
2. If you could pick the next historical figure to guest-star in Doctor Who, who would it be? Who would you cast as them?
3. Pick a dream role for CE.
4. If you could make one crack or slash ship canon, which would you pick?
5. What do you think is the most underrated movie, past or present?

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, I was wondering.

I don't know, if I met someone else from Maryland my first instinct would not be: filthy rich. Maybe if they were from Potomac or anywhere else in Montgomery County.

*sigh* Maybe...I still miss that damn stupid awful show. Maybe if Neal and the Burkes were altogether we could avoid the "ooh they're so cute and adorable together! And then all of the sudden Neal does something untrustworthy and Peter goes back to not trusting him!" cycle that I'm finding more and more tiresome.

Matt is very good at it, and it's especially impressive with him because he is pretty young and yet manages to give off the old soul vibes like no other.

Hmm, those look interesting. Interesting enough to avoid finishing up the stuff I'm writing to answer. Decisions, decisions.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I get for writing my replies out in Word and then copy/pasting.

Same. I dunno, I guess it's just hard to tell from the inside how the whole of the state comes off to others.

It was such a cool world they created- and they just focused on the least interesting parts... Seriously. Have you been reading Exquisite? It's [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller's on-going fic that mirrors events of the season with an OT3 twist.

Exactly! The balance is just right- I don't think CE or DT quite managed it as well.

[identity profile] fadeintodawn.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Maryland. I would tend to think of Connecticut more for yuppie/snobby sorts, but Maryland would fit too. At least we aren't just known for Baltimore's crime rate, right?

(But seriously... he said lobster? That's Maine, hon.)

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? But I guess it's tough to see something from the inside.

(But he really didn't do his homework if he failed to notice our overarching crab theme.)

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Come at me, bro!

I saw that video yesterday! Hey, consider yourself lucky---I got this: "We're number 1!...In meth." And it's completely true. Winter's Bone was written by a Missouri native...

Yeah, I haven't seen much Classic!Who, either (mainly Four and Seven). The special effects are...a bit hard to stomach in this day and age. I think I agree with you about Eleven---I think he and Nine tie for my favorite Doctor.

had the show not run itself so deep into the ground it could taste mantle.

That is the perfect way to describe Heroes. I honestly have no clue what the writers were thinking during those last two seasons.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, ye-eah, kind of hard to complain about someone saying you have a lot of money. Like, "HEY! We are not... really.. that rich. Never mind."

The special effects were.. not even cheesy bad. Not even laughably bad. They just sucked, and pulled me out of what I could discern of the story. It's a very close race between Nine and Eleven for me- like I said, Matt Smith is just a hair better.

You got me. I'm really just embarrassed for them, these days. I mean, presumably these people could tell a story- seems like once they were all together in a room they forgot how.

1. Pick a cast for your favorite novel.
2. Which would you rather have be real: magic or aliens?
3. When's the last time something gave you chills?
4. What's the best name you ever heard?
5. If you could make one crack or slash ship canon, which would you pick?

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Haha. It's not so much having a lot of money as it is being snooty. You guys probably spend your money on a lot more interesting things than butlers named Jeeves. We take our meth money and spend it on boats, so we can go to Lake of the Ozarks and pass Brad Pitt's house and pretend we have class.

Yeah, with those special effects, it's like, "I want to love this, but that's just kind of depressing." I once saw an old clip where Four and Leela are supposed to step out onto a strange planet, and they...end up on the roof of a tall building. Well, of course---Matt Smith's hair is longer. ;)

Oh God, maybe they all dropped acid during the Writers' Strike? I have no clue how they could just lose it all so fast. One article on TVTropes says they were probably just paying attention to certain fan forums from week to week and that's where they got their ideas. That would explain the random Claude shout-outs that we got now and then.

Got it done!

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Define interesting. (Which should tell you a lot about what at least I spend my money on right there.)

Heh, kind of like how almost every planet on Star Trek (and Firefly, if I'm honest) looked strangely like southern California... *snort* An excellent point.

Well obviously someone told them to cash in on Zachary Quinto's Spock fame, that's why he got THREE $#^@$%^ STORYLINES. *wanders off, grumbling to self Yosemite Sam-style*

[identity profile] zombres.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
GREAT ANSWERS ARE GREAT.

Also: COME AT ME, BRO. :D

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
GREAT QUESTIONS ARE GREAT (so great I'm stealing most of the ones I'm using from you XD). Also, loooove that CE icon. *swoons*

1. If you could pick the next historical figure to guest-star in Doctor Who, who would it be? Who would you cast as them?
2. If you could make one crack or slash ship canon, which would you pick?
3. Name your top three funniest/scariest/most romantic movies.
4. Describe your ultimate dining experience.
5. Who was your second celebrity crush?

[identity profile] ellensparkleyes.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
56,000 square acres of dull? did he forget we're where MO goes to hide its meth? :p

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently so. But this guy didn't even know we eat crabs in MD, not lobster, so don't get too offended. ;)

[identity profile] gingerberrysnap.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, that state thing was pretty true. Especially the Florida one. Though I don't know if people would understand it if they've never lived here.

I would want teleportation as a power. Mostly because I like to travel but hate airplanes.

I just told [livejournal.com profile] visiblemarket to come at me! But you can come at me too and I'll do a mega post.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, the one for FL is a favorite, good delivery as well as honesty. Though you're probably right, you'd need to know more about the state than "That's where Disney is, right?" to get it.

Teleportation would be pretty great, as long as you had really good control over it- really not a power you want to experience any screw-ups with while using.

Hee, we will come at you from all sides! That.. didn't come out right. Anyway!

1. If you could make one crack or slash ship canon, which would you pick? (I'm asking pretty much everyone this- it's a great question.)
2. What are you looking forward to most when you hit San Francisco?
3. Pick a new cast for one of your favorite movies.
4. What three characteristics are required to make you like a TV show?
5. What was the first album you ever bought?
