stuff and things

Hey, folks, what's up? Not too much for me- I'm overbooked on memes and fic, busy at work- but I've seen some cool things since my last post- or rather, [livejournal.com profile] zombres has shown me some cool things, and I feel like sharing.

Check this out. The climax of the radio play War of the Worlds done in typography:

How cool is that? ... Okay, maybe not that cool, but I like it. Here are other movie moments done in typography, if you're interested. Iron Man and V for Vendetta are a couple other pretty great ones.

Also, normally I prefer not to speculate on the early/private lives of famous people, but a lot of these photos are really worth taking a look at. They're pretty remarkable, if only for a few in a "Wow, I had no idea those two/more people ever existed in the same place long enough to have their picture taken" kind of way.

Okay, I better get at least one of the memes I've signed up for out of the way:

Icon meme RULES:
1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

By [livejournal.com profile] comically_so. Well, as Firefly and MST3K are both very important to me, I could hardly say no to an icon that combined the two, now could I? Although, I don't like using animated icons very often, so this one unfortunately doesn't see as much action as it should.

By [livejournal.com profile] rex_dart. More MST3K, because you can never have enough. I'm not huge into Harry Potter- Discworld pretty thoroughly captured my attention while it had its heyday. But I still find it darkly funny to imagine Hedwig pondering whether or not to divebomb little Harry. ETA: The quote's a riff from the episode featuring Merlin's Mystical Shop of Wonders, BTW.

By [livejournal.com profile] tinuviel428. I just love this shot. Earth exploding in the background, and a teenage Earthling holding hands with a 900-year-old Time Lord. I feel like it says a lot about Doctor Who as a show- these little moments woven into gigantic ones.

By [livejournal.com profile] dana_crimson. Heh, it's been an awfully long time since I watched Scrubs regularly, but I have yet to find another icon that expresses ultimate joy quite so well as this one.

By [livejournal.com profile] corellianjedi. Well, it's from my favorite Middle-episode, "The Clotharian Contamination Protocol." And it's Noser, being his laidback awesome self- hard to go wrong with that. This icon's good for a lot of stuff, as long as it's kind of cool or better.

That Marylin Monroe one is pretty amazing. I think my favorite of her is the one of her and JFK taken through a cracked door. I don't think it gets much more intimate than that.

As for the Beatles, I just love the one of young teen!George, John, and Paul. Look at them! With their tall hair and baby faces.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that one with JFK is kind of breathtaking. Oh, and the one where she's meeting Queen Elizabeth II; they both look kind of in awe of each other.

Aw, that one is adorable too. And Jack Kerouac with the kitty.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, that's a great one too. I like to imagine the queen had a certain amount of respect for Marylin Monroe.

Do you mean the one with Marlon Brando and the kitty draped over his shoulders? Because that one's fantastic.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Gosh, Marilyn Monroe makes me so sad. She seemed like such a sweet girl.

Oh, that one's cute too, but I think that one is indeed of Jack Kerouac and a kitty.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. I've only seen her in Some Like It Hot, but she was pretty great in it. Very sexy, but also sweet and vulnerable.

Ah ha! I totally didn't see the kitty in that picture. A little overexposed, I guess. D'awww.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, I love that movie. "Nobody's perfect", indeed. I remember her in All About Eve, and it was a really little role, but she was luminous.

Yeah, it took me a little while to figure out that it was a cat, but it's cute.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen All About Eve... yes indeed it's on YouTube! Maybe I'll check it out this weekend.

No arguments here, though I think I like the Brando one a little bit better.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's...parts of it are pretty great.

The cat does seem pretty interested in what Brando is typing.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, ringing endorsement right there.

I just love its little chin and paw on his shoulder. All like, "Hm, you missed an apostrophe."

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Yeah. I mean, there's some really clever lines to it, and Bette Davis is fantastic in it, but her boyfriend is kind of a jerk.

*snort* Exactly. That kitty is his beta for sure ;)

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Her boyfriend wouldn't happen to be played by George Sanders? Because that guy is always a bit of a creep.

Hee, no doubt.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* No, if I recall, George Sanders plays this totally, completely gay gossip columnist. He's actually pretty funny.

I wish my dog were that helpful.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good. Yeah, he can deliver the odd one-liner, but he's way too oily for my taste.

I suppose it would come in handy, though I don't think I'd enjoy someone reading not over but from my shoulder.

*sigh* Why can't it be Friday tonight? Later.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he's definitely super bitchy. It is such a '50s film, it's hilarious.

Yeah, but it's better than my dog's approach, which is to try and sit in my lap while my laptop is also there.

Aww. Well, only one more day to go ;) Good night!
