Brace for impact!

I love those doppler radar images you see on the weather report of storms coming up from the south, it looks like an enormous green amoeba is about to engulf the east coast. Look out!

That's pretty much the only good thing about the apparently horrendous snow storm breathing down Maryland's neck. I was really super going to go Christmas shopping on Saturday- now it'll have to wait until probably Tuesday after work (can't miss Monday's re-watch, of course). And then there's the appointment I made to get a photo portrait done for my dad's gift. I've already had to reschedule it for Saturday because my mom's dragging me out to the BSO on Sunday... Though, I wonder if the storm's put that in jeopardy too. Oy. Snow? Seriously, crappy timing.

Anyway, other stuff. TV! I finally sat down and watched two of the recent Doctor Who specials, "The New Doctor" and "Planet of the Dead." You know, I hate to say it, but I may be pretty much done with Doctor Who. Those two episodes were okay, but they really didn't thrill me like earlier ones have, and ending each one with "THE DOCTOR IS SOOOOOOOOOO LONELYYYYYYY! DDDX" got old really fast. So, you know, I'm interested enough to check out the first of Eleven's episodes, and whatever episode it is with John Simm and Timothy Dalton, but if they don't get the job done, that'll be about it for me.

OTOH, Syfy's Alice was really something special, I think. Surreal but still grounded, well-acted and nicely textured and cinematic. Hatter's awesome, as is Charlie, and Alice herself, though sometimes you could pick up on Catarina Scorsone's inexperience. I love that she's a black belt, but they didn't have her doing all kinds of ridiculous martial arts moves at every opportunity. Honestly, 90% of the time the moves she did seemed very realistic for someone who, despite having the knowledge, gained that knowledge in a classroom and not while actually protecting themselves from harm. So, points for that. And Alice/Hatter is adorable, there I said it.

I am so pissed off. Usually I love snow so much but this particular snowfall is just ruining things left and right for me. *pouts*

Anyway. TV...I want to want to watch TV shows. I mean, I still haven't seen the last episode of White Collar, among other things. And this Alice show looks like it has potential. I'm just really not in the mood for anything. Blah. Maybe next week I'll watch something.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have yet to decide if I'm going to try to make my noon photo session or not. It's at least a half hour drive under normal conditions, so I really don't want to think about what it'll be like now. I... don't think I'm going to go. Sorry, Dad.

Yeah, I definitely get that- just not feeling like putting in the effort. I would suggest you make a little time for White Collar, though.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it'd be best not to try it, especially if it's as bad there as it is here. Safer to stay home. Maybe you could reschedule?

I may give it a shot today. I'm in a better mood.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, as much as I'd like to battle my way through the storm and arrive in a gust of triumph (I imagine there would be applause)... I should really just reschedule.

Yay!

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
They might not even be open. I'm not sure if Barnes and Noble is going to be open tonight, either.

Woo! Just in a few minutes.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be highly unsurprised if that was the case. I can't imagine it's a big shop.

Man, I remember seeing commercials for White Collar and being so utterly blase about it, all "Oh, well, that's going to be an utter waste of air time, ah ha ha ha." It's not a perfect show by any means, but it definitely bypassed those first impressions.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
They're probably just as happy not to have to drive in as you are.

Hee, I do recall that. I think you thought it was going to be very cliche but that the leads had slashy potential. Well, part of that was true enough.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't doubt that for a second. I always pity people who have to drag themselves into work whenever pretty much everyone else can stay home.

I think it's managed to bypass a lot of the most obvious cliches, mainly because Peter and Elizabeth are really great, strong characters and Matt Bomer's charming and sweet enough to make what he's got work.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of reluctant to call in to work to see if they're going to be open. I really don't want to go. There's going to be nothing to do.

It's a really good show. The one thing I'm disappointed in it about is Natalie's role. That is a little bit cliche.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's pretty much guaranteed to be dead. But, y'know, if nothing else, you'll get points for going in. Call when it's like an hour before you have to go, just to make sure.

Her role is extremely disappointing. It hurts when she just delivers her exposition and fades into the background. I'm like, "Guys, that's Wendy effing Watson right there! You can't give her ANYTHING interesting to do?!"

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and I'm going to need those points. I will do that. Before I venture out into the elements.

I'd rather the exposition than the sort-of crush on Neal they keep hinting at. Or did keep hinting at, I think they've toned it down. Besides if she had to have a crush on someone, I'd rather it go this way.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you get there? Walking would pretty much suck, but at least it'd be marginally safer than driving. Just bundle up good and tight and remember- layers.

Erg, yeah, please to not have.. Not!Wendy (Lauren?) have a crush on Neal. Actually, so far she seems to be very capable at not getting blinded by his charm- really sharp one-liners cutting down innuendo are the only thing she does besides exposition. D'awwww, of course Natalie's White Collar cast family would be nearly as adorable as her Middleman one.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, well, I drive, but it's about fifteen minutes away on a bad day. Although today would be worse than that for sure, so my dad would probably insist on taking me instead. I could technically walk but I'm lazy and it's far away.

Yep, Lauren. I just wish her one liners were little wittier. I mean, I guess yeah, she's an FBI agent, they're not exactly hired for their sardonic humor but...come on! Wendy Watson! She seems really happy over there. I just...yeah. It's different.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, yeah, I wouldn't walk a fifteen-minute drive. Let your dad drive you if you have to go.

Or at least let her lose the mom!hair. Anyway, I still hold that she's on a deep undercover Middlemission.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* I really don't want to go...

Heh, yeah, the mom hair...in a sense I like it because yeah, again, junior FBI agent. But it just looks so weird. I think it's the coloring that gets to me. Hee, I'm watching the episode now and the fact that Mozzie looked into her and got a file made me laugh and wonder what was in the file.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, but, y'know, it'll be nice and quiet and you might even get to leave early or might end up not having to go in at all.

The coloring is not helping things at all. Hee, oh you know Moz is all over the Middleconspiracy. I smell a fanfic...

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, and anyone desperate enough to come in while probably be...really desperate. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

It definitely makes her look a little dowdier. *laughs* Moz probably has a list of every single government department she's ever claimed to be in.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
They'll be looking to get in and out very quickly, I'll bet. Or possibly just hang out in a squashy chair and read, which, well, at least they'll be quiet.

It just doesn't suit her, I don't think. And then there's the fact that she's replacing the OMG lesbian FBI agent from the pilot, which gives a sour taste to the whole thing. Yup, even ASCAP: "We prefer to avoid the acronym," Lauren (or so she called herself) stated flatly.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
God, those squashy chairs are so gross. Secrets of the book world. But yeah, they won't be much trouble and we'll probably get to go early.

It really doesn't. Even her Evil!Wendy hair looked better. *laughs* I think she'd really fit in with Neal and Mozzie with all the fake IDs.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I didn't need to know that. Ick. The latest Mythbusters was even about objects you encounter that are more bacteria-infested than a toilet seat. I've got two words for you: kitchen, sponge.

Way better. But then, it would take a lot to make Evil!Wendy look anything but badass. Hee, I can see it now: "These are flawless!" Neal marvelled. Lauren smirked, "Benefits of working for an organization too secret to know."

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* You can always tell the new Barnes and Noble workers because they're the only ones still willing to sit in the squashy chairs. I remember a friend of mine did a study about different places at school that have the highest germ counts and it was...disturbing. But the fact is, well, we probably have more germs in our stomachs than anywhere else and it doesn't kill us. Usually.

I really need to rewatch some Middleman one of these days. I miss Wendy.

Also I just finished watching the last White Collar episode. Not as bad as I thought.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Very true. People don't realize that a lot of the really bad illnesses come from bacteria that need to directly enter your blood stream to infect you, and in any event can't survive for long outside a host. People don't give their immune systems enough credit.

Mm, I had so much fun showing my little brother the first disc of the DVDs.

Yeah. See, what I'm hoping is that, due to the resemblance, Kate will turn out to be Elizabeth's sister/cousin and Peter actually knows her through that. Although, I must say, I'm intrigued by the possibility of super scary con artist!Peter, as much as I wouldn't want to actually see it go down that way.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The body is an amazing thing. The immune system especially.

I have all of them on iTunes but I'd assume the DVDs have extras that I really do want to see. Maybe I'll buy some tonight.

Kate looks incredibly like Elizabeth, doesn't she? It's a little odd if there isn't meant to be something behind it. I just don't want to lose the adorable Peter/Neal relationship.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

One word this time: commentaries. And all of the Javi-casts, none of which I had bothered watching before.

The Peter/Neal relationship is the thing I would mourn most if it turned out Peter was playing.. everyone. But, yeah, I'm really hoping it's not a mistake that Kate and Elizabeth look like sisters.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that it keeps me from freaking out about germs, but you know, at least I recognize that it's illogical.

Oh yeah, commentaries! I will definitely order the DVDs at least. I'm not sure if we even sell them.

Especially since they were so cute in this episode before that. With the champagne in paper cups and the letting him run away.
