It's been such a World War II weekend for me. Inglorious Basterds yesterday (awesome film, lots of fun), then Casablanca this morning, and now Band of Brothers is being shown on Spike and I'm gonna watch it (and have fun playing a rousing game of "Hey, It's That Guy!" ETA: OMG, that was Simon Pegg with an American accent!).

Other than that, I finally got the chance to watch Cracker and witnes the magic that is D.C.I. David Bilborough, thanks to

visiblemarket. I definitely enjoyed it, though TBH I'm glad it was just the first season, and that only three two-part episodes long. I got my fill of shows where the characters spend every single scene psychoanalyzing each other when I watched House. But otherwise, it's a good time. Bilborough was a treat when he stopped acting like a twerp, which was maybe a little rarer than I would've liked. Penhaligon was my favorite character, when she wasn't tempting Fitz to cheat on his wife. Though, that's another thing- during the second episode he seemed pretty thoroughly on the outs with Judith. Cut to episode three and they're back living together. How'd that happen? Ah well, it's not like I was in it for Fitz anyway. Sorry, Mister Coltrane.

Anyway, it's a big day tomorrow. My first trip to the Renaissance Festival in two years- I'm psyched. Yeah, that's what kind of dork I am, in case you're wondering. I don't have a costume, but I'm definitely in it for more than the turkey legs.

Also, got a music rec for ya'. You know that Bacardi commercial, where the guy walks backwards in time to get to the bar and order a mojito? Well, the song they play during it is "Daylight" by Matt & Kim. I ended up buying the album it's on a while back and finally got around to listening to it today. It's pretty darn good. A few of the songs have this neat sound that's kind of old and.. spacious. Empty, in a good way. Like standing in a big old theater, if that makes sense. And a lot of, if not all, of the songs have this strong, heavy beat to them that I like. Interesting stuff, for sure. Here, have "Daylight" on the house, I suggest you go get the rest.

I think so. Especially because he looks especially sympathetic in the episode itself.

He's always leaving Peter, in my fics. I can't seem to get over it. Even when he comes back.

Well, I think you can read her reluctance to deal with him in a couple of ways; she sees him as kind of a twerp, and therefore unthreatening when compared to other Nazis; she sees him as a decent enough guy who's part of the group that killed her family, but probably wouldn't harm her as long as he didn't know it; or she's just reckless enough to be all out rude to someone who, given his rank at least, could totally kill her without much provocation. Comparing her scene with Landa, where she actually attempts to be polite and everything (as much as it's clearly killing her), I don't think she's that reckless, I think that she thinks Frederick is basically harmless. Which is kind of a big deal when it comes to the Nazis. As for fic...it's unsurprisingly mostly slash, and at [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].

I'll bet. No amount of snark, desk-sitting, and new fatherhood can counter death.

While watching I would've been willing to bet that once she knew how famous Fredrick was, she wouldn't manipulated him into getting something like Operation Kino going. But I don't really think she did. I'm trying to remember how rude she was/wasn't after she found out who he was because, yeah, I could see her mouthing off to a nameless soldier, but not really Germany's Golden Boy. Wow, fandom moves fast- they already had a kink meme come and go.

I think desk-sitting may just be bad luck for CE characters. Within 45 minutes, he always ends up in perilous situations.

It seriously is. They really do a lot of knife twisting over it.

Well, based on how she treated him when he showed up at the projection room in the end, she still didn't see him as that threatening. Which, she should have. I'm trying not to get too involved; I'm supposedly "writing something" at the moment.

I suppose we should count it a blessing his characters come ready to have lots of hurt/comfort fic written about them.

It's a bit like the Wash situation, I guess. But I get the feeling that, as usual, CE was just kind of not willing to stick around for more than one season.

I remember him showing up in a Cracked list. But it certainly was cool of QT to use the idea of it and give it a twist. *laughs* Maybe. I was also considering another one that is likewise similar to one I've already written which is on the tenth page.

Yeah, one of those "Top Ten Toughest Soldiers" lists, right? I think I remember that. It is cool, I like it quite a bit. The one on page ten's interesting too (possibly inspired by your earlier fic). Didn't catch my eye as much as the one on eight, but if you've already written a fill for it it's cool.

Oh yes, that had quite a bit of good possibilities. But I'll admit I've ended up being a bigger fan of Peter being in the position to be comforted, if only because Peter doing the comforting is so obvious.

You know, I never thought of it like that. But I have thought about how lucky we were to get a patented CE Tragic Death Scene that didn't actually end in death.

Heh, I've mostly passed the stage where Cracked can suck me in for hours, but that is a very good article. Well, okay, lemme ask one thing: is it from Claude's POV? If there's that much difference, I'd be more comfortable. I'd say the one on ten doesn't lend itself all that easily to actual smut- not when Peter's seriously ill. At least I hope not.

That is pretty cool; Claude is probably so used to doing his own caregiving that letting anyone else do it would take a whole lot of trust.

Hah, I'm still pretty entertained. They just had one with the most random fight scenes ever and then I had to watch the videos themselves and laugh and laugh. Um, it's in Peter's, but I can a) still change it or b) retool it into something else that I keep meaning to finish anyway. As for the one on 10, "dying" is really such a broad term. I could work with that.

Hee. There was one about the worst possible fetishes and that was fun too. Awesome; let's see if I can actually finish it. Well, not the clinic patients; those are just kind of stupid. I have a couple of ideas but they would require research. And you know how I feel about that.

When they're miserable, you have reason to write them some happiness. That's fun.

That was good; the one about Historical Figures That Were Nearly Impossible To Kill also makes me laugh a lot. Mmm, well, I do have tomorrow off, so I'll try to finish at least one of them.

Oh absolutely, though, again, depending on the urgency of the hurt. He might not appreciate arguing over Claude's independence when the man's bleeding to death.

Ah, so canon misery = fic happiness?

And I think I will go get some sleep now. It's been a long day and if the muse gets rolling tomorrow, I'd like to be up early to meet her. 'Night!

Well, better to be arguing then to be moping about the fact that Claude's bleeding to death. Right?
