HURRICANE UPDATE: everything's fine.

Wind √, rain √, power outage X, so a win all around. Some family and friends have been dealing with power outages but there's been no lose of life or property, so good news there too.

Moving on (unless/until Katia gets here...)! Indulged in some fun-time spending this week, to complement both getting paid and paying my rent, clearly. I've got:

1. Bossypants by Tina Fey, the audiobook. I'd resisted getting the hardback, but when I found out this was actually read by the lady in question, I figured it had to be a good time.
2. I'm With You by Red Hot Chili Peppers. I'm a little wary here- I listened to all of the samples on iTunes, and there were only like four or five tracks that seriously intrigued me, hm...
3. The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan. It was staring straight at me when I walked into B&N, 20%-off sticker gleaming in the light... I've decided Jake (the werewolf, and do you think Mister Duncan was aware that that name was, uh.. taken? I hope not) will be played by Tim Roth in my head. So that should be fun. Also, FYI, the edges of the pages are dyed this kind of amazing ox-blood red.
4. Green tea with coconut, ginger, and vanilla. I had resisted it on a previous B&N trip, but I'm in need of an interesting new tea, so here we are.

In conclusion, I keep having long fic ideas that would require serious research to be at all decent. Boo. Maybe I should just develop that silly Cyrano de Bergerac-style romance thing. That could be fun. There would be pining, oh yes. But.. hrm... that's not what's tugging at me, you know? *sigh*

P.S. I've been reading through the Middleman Collected Series Indispensability lately. Remind me to do a compare and contrast with the show when I'm done, yeah?

Ah, you just reminded that I should buy the new Real Tuesday Weld album. I will...possibly get on that, any minute now.

Heh, to be fair, I think it's only Bella that calls him "Jake", he's Jacob in narration and everywhere else. Plus he's not really much of werewolf.

You know what I have an urge to write, completely randomly? More of that Sherlock/V for Vendetta crossover thing, I don't even know why.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Buy it! It's good.

I'm disturbed that you know that.

Can't say I'd be entirely dismayed to see more of that...

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Buying it, buying it...

It's not my fault I have good reading comprehension skills. Maybe a little my fault I read the books in the first place. To my credit I didn't pay for them.

*sigh* Just like I wouldn't be entirely dismayed to see whatever you want to write the requires lots of research. It's just a matter of...how do I words?

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yay!

Ooh, you're lucky I'm the forgiving sort...

You wouldn't indeed. It's West/Wendy. But yes, the wording is a problem.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Bought it, bought it.

Is watching Rizzoli and Ives something I need to be forgiven for? Because I am and I'm kind of feeling guilty for it.

Ahah, I do love those two crazy kids. I just really need to finish something, anything at this point. Just to know that I still can.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Very good. Gotta support the good ones, right?

Eh, at least it's slashy.

M!Lacey and M!..MM would be there too. That would be nice. I miss your fic.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm liking it so far.

Eh, the one that isn't Angie Harmon had herself a boyfriend who's a criminal in this one, so the slashiness was somewhat curtailed. But there was one awkward ambiguously gay moment, and the dude left by the end of the episode, so I guess that's all right. Plus there was some plot or another going on at the same time, maybe?

Well, that's good. I miss my fic too. But I kind of miss everyone's fic.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I got rid of the tracks between "Time of the Month" and "Room Service"- much improved things.

Admittedly I haven't seen an episode, but it's one of those shoes I'm slightly rooting for to achieve canon slash.

Ye-eah, it's been basically silent all around these days. But, y'know, that doesn't mean there's nothing going on.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, I can never delete tracks when I buy a complete album. I feel guilty.

I may be betraying fandom, but (from the one episode I watched), I don't see it nearly as much as I was expecting. Hmph. Maybe I should watch more.

*sigh* Yeah...it just makes me sad.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, seriously? I mean, like I've said, if it's one of those things where each track goes into another and there would be a noticeable blip if you took it out... but why listen to tracks you don't like? Don't you just end up skipping over them? Why not save the space on your computer?

I'm sure it's a cumulative thing. They can't all be Plaude.

Well, it's no good dwelling on it. Try writing something instead.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well, sometimes they grow on me, and it's not like skipping them is that taxing. Plus if I paid for the whole thing I'm not going to throw parts of it away.

*laughs* No, I suppose they can't.

Bleh. I've got a file open and everything...

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose they could improve with time, but if they don't, then the parts you're throwing away are not good, so it's not like you're losing anything of real value. It's like altering a piece of clothing so it fits better.

I really can't think of any TV pairing that did so much with so little screentime.

Excellent! You're further along than me.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I just feel like there's something to be said for completeness. The best artists, I hope, choose the inclusion and order of their songs for a reason, so to get the full experience I think it's nice to have them all. Maybe I'll change my mind when I start running out of computer space.

Mm, there've been a couple that made me go "I ship that/want fic!" but none that got any kind of fandom, even a small one, out of it, so you're probably right.

Limited success, then!

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ye-eah, obviously they wouldn't be included if they weren't supposed to, but ultimately I'd prefer not to sit there waiting for them to end so I can go back to enjoying the album.

Heroes was really great for nurturing the niche pairings with personalized comms and such.

Indeed! And now I have to pry myself away from fuckyeahlizlemon and go to sleep. A .gif of Tina Fey literally instructed me to.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Pfft, well, be that way. You and your enjoyment.

That it was. I feel a bit bad for the folks that fell in love with later pairings, they got much less action.

Lemon out! Good night. Oh and I just had to share this with someone.

[identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I'm selfish like that.

Yeah, though ATM I can't think of any good ones...

*snort* MV, you are five years old, FYI.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hedonist.

Well, Claire/Gretchen was canon, even, and I don't think I even saw a community pop up or anything. I mean sure Gretchen was kind of a stalker at first, but it's not like that stopped any of the Sylar related pairings.

I know, but he's such a cute five year old. Plus sometimes he does more mature things, like tell people to read the Time magazine article about Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans.
