His handling of Torchwood annoyed me as well. As much as I loved Ianto, I think I could have dealt with him dying if it actually affected the story and didn't happen within four episodes of two other main characters being killed. He also pretty much systematically dismantled the show by literally blowing up and destroying it's recurring devices. Not that Torchwood was ever great television or anything.
