lotus0kid: (friends & wonders)
Good evening! I had an interesting day today. Spent it with some friendly young strangers in DC. Well, I say strangers- a stranger is never really a stranger if they're also a nerdfighter. Anyway, we ate pizza, saw a lovely congregation of kites on the Mall, and took in a suprasensorial experience at the Hirshhorn. Check out some of my kite pictures!

Pretty huge, but worth it. )

So that was neat. I also posted a little Rumbelle thing on Tumblr where basically Belle is Regina's croney and has no memories of life before Storybrooke. Or does she? *dundundunn*

Otherwise, I think I'll watch me some Blazing Saddles tonight. And, what the hey, let's have another fic-writing question.

2 – Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it. )
lotus0kid: (verbs or adjectives)
Ohhh, sweet jeepers, so numb. SO NUMB. I can feel it in my SCALP! But the last of the cavities is gone, and I don't have to go back until August. Which is fabulous. So, a meme! Sure! Maybe it'll finally kick me past this non-existent snag I'm in. From [livejournal.com profile] guanin:

1. Go to page 77 (or 7) of your current manuscript.
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines – sentences or paragraphs – and post them as they’re written.
4. Encourage other people to do it!

... Or wait, actually no. Heh, I would if I could, but the thing I'm working on is only six pages so far, not seven. I maybe should've checked that before I got this all set up. I'm shocked- it felt a lot longer than six pages. Nuts.

So, okay, looking through my stockpile of memes (what, you don't have one?)... Hm, there's this 30-question meme based on fic-writing. It always seemed a bit too navel-gazey, but since we're on the subject...

1 – How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in? )

Heh, I use videogame terms like I know what they mean. Anyway, yes, birthday, another one, yay! And, that's about it. Sorry, I'm still getting over a rather severe spring cleaning in the form of the stomach flu I caught last Sunday. All the pyrotechnics are done, but my appetite is still hovering around zero. My stomach growled once, a few days ago, that was exciting. Otherwise, I truly can't describe how very little I care about food. Which is annoying.

And, yeah, so, energy levels aren't exactly through the roof. I might've liked to do something a little special for my quarter-centennial, but instead I'm marathoning the Addams Family movies with [livejournal.com profile] fadeintodawn. I might also watch The City of Lost Children, which Netflix sent yesterday. And/or Man on Wire, which is on Instant. I'm in the mood for cinema, is what I'm saying.

And fic, that too, jeez. This Rumbelle business- it's just so very epic, y'know? I'm still pretty captivated, NGL, even after 11,000 words. I've got something coming along now, though it's being kind of truculent. And there's definitely one after that too. ETA: And another, oops. Maybe once that's done I can get back to Grimm and finish what I was trying to accomplish there. That'd be nice.

Rumpelstiltskin, please, don't leave me. )

Oh god, I just got back from having a cavity filled and I'm numb from my lower lip and my tongue to my right ear, for eff's sake! My right temple feels weird, guys! I keep feeling these tiny itches but when I go to scratch them the area is numb! Ugh, I'm gonna go look up that vlogbrothers workout video because my dentist said activity makes the novocaine wear off faster.

Oh jeez, I just took a sip of some juice and I couldn't feel it AT ALL on the right side of my mouth, nor on most of my tongue. This is not fun, though at least the taste of novocaine is gone.

On the plus side of today, Community! At the cost of Parks and Rec apparently, which is not cool, but whatever. Also, I thought I looked quite nice, with my new clothes. It was a good hair day. And I got a bit of writing done at work. That always makes me feel accomplished, in a slightly naughty way. And finally, my mom and stepdad got me a pair of flower boxes for my birthday and helped me set them up a couple weeks ago, and now sprouts! )

Okay, I'm gonna do the workout and wait a few hours and try to drink some dinner.

ETA: Just so you know, licking your numb lip with your numb tongue feels like doing absolutely nothing. Maybe making part of your face move a little bit. But it's a part that's also numb, so it doesn't really matter.
lotus0kid: (city)
Not that I'm done with that- oh goodness no *eyes three ideas waiting to pounce*. Oh jeez. Anywho, hi! It was so lovely and warm out today, I went clothes shopping! And not with a very specific solitary item as my one and only goal! I had a coupon that expires today, so I ended up getting a really nice skirt that I don't know when I'm going to wear and some other stuff.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed the latest Once Upon a Time episode. It was really properly spoilery. )

Also, I watched the second season of Luther. That was good, needed more Alice, and I'm sure if Luther has to go after another spoiler )

Also also, Walking Dead. Ohhh, Walking Dead. It's so weird- it's a show about horrible things happening and/or people being forced to do them, and yet I get such a... is it tacky to say a craving? Because it's the best word I can come up with. So, anyway, spoilers. )

Okay, I'mma eat some pizza and catch up on The Daily Show.

Chapter Two
lotus0kid: (Default)
Holy crap I need to adjust my crepe recipe. All my dinners since Sunday have been crepes. I'm not even sure I should've had the batter in the fridge for that long. After the inaugural Nutella and raspberry jelly, and two ground beef and onion and peas, I had one tuna and mayo and cheese, one fried egg (see Diagram 1), and I just tried out lemon curd and clementine slices (eh). I gotta get me some scones for that lemon curd. Nothing else will do.

Diagram 1 )

Also, I was going to run out and see Chronicle after work, but I decided to go for the other scifi film featuring troubled youths that Netflix sent, Attack the Block. I just finished it- that is one solid picture, I'd say. Worth all the praise I've seen for it.

Um, that's it, I guess. Crepe adventures, movies- yeah, that's all.
lotus0kid: (stunts)
So I guess I'm watching the Superbowl. Mostly because John Green is supposedly livetweeting it (the addiction continues apace). So far, cute commercial with players and cheerleaders going out and singing a verse of "Wind Beneath My Wings" to Regular Folks(tm) and a commercial for beard trimmers that had Adrien Brody- where has that guy been? I miss him so much.

But in other news, I'm finally making crepes again! It's been over a year because it took that long to use up the stupid "self-rising" flour I bought for cupcakes. But now I have the appropriate flour and all is well! I've made a Nutella and raspberry jelly crepe (breakfast!) and a ground beef and peas crepe (dinner!)... and I still have a bunch of batter left. Any suggestions? I have some lemon curd that's been left completely unopened in my fridge for.. quite a while actually. It.. uh, it was a housewarming gift. I think it's okay, it looks okay. Lemon curd and raspberry jelly? Lemon curd and clementine sections? Shame strawberries aren't in season.

Dude, it's hard to pay attention for the commercials. I'm trained not to. *sigh* Game hasn't started and I'm already bored.

ETA: One of the players (first typed "characters"- I sooo shouldn't be watching this) has the same last name as me. Weird.
lotus0kid: (rawk)
Looks like we've got a nice bit of snow going tonight. About time, right, my fellow Mid-Atlanticers? Anyway, I could be reading fic now, or writing it, or watching more Vlogbrothers vids (it's really awful how each one is usually no more than four minutes- keeps making you think you have time for "just one more"... until you don't). But instead, I want to try a meme I just invented! Hm, is it really a meme if you're the first to do it? I feel like the definition of a meme would have to include some kind of lifespan greater than.. right now. Anyway, it's kind of a combination of that one where you use your music library to write a poem by taking the first lines of thirteen songs that come up on shuffle, and the one where you write down the first song that comes up for certain words when you type them into the search bar. I'm going to take a few words from that list, and write a poem using the first lines of all the tracks that come up when I type each word into the search bar. Get it? Sure you do! So here we go!

Okay, first problem: it's tough to pick words that don't come up with, like, 60+ songs... )

I'd say that worked out pretty well, though I might add a proviso like.. only use the songs that have the particular word in the title. I got screwed by a lot of album names in there. And it gets tricky when you want to be true to the lines that come up, but you'd also like the poem to make sense. I've compromised by fiddling with the order the songs came in and the punctuation, while refusing to change any words or delete lines that are awkward. And now it seems to have mostly stopped snowing. Boo-urns, says my inner child.
lotus0kid: (dreamer)
Oh jeez, I may be getting sucked into Vlogbrothers. No... no.... noooo... XDDD

ETA: Another haiku that's not for you, but for me and my future enjoyment. )

Otherwise, I briefly had a rough morning when I woke up convinced it was Wednesday and I was super late. I was actually up and out of bed with my phone in my hand half a second from calling work before I remembered what day it really was. Annoying.

So, my plans for this actual day today, I'm going to try this thing. It seems like all the movies I want to see lately are the weirdo indie flicks no one plays anywhere. I mean, clearly the industry views us rabble outside of New York and L.A. as unfit to touch the hem of the garment of Coriolanus :(. However, I've found a theater not too far away that's miraculously playing Albert Nobbs at 2:30 and The Artist at 4:30, so I'm going to go there. And see them both. Today. I've never done that before, seen two movies in one day. I'm a little tempted to see if I can get away with only paying for one, but nah.

I really have been watching a lot of movies lately. I finally re-watched Star Trek (2009) last night- wow, what a ride. What a franchise. I get the warmfuzzies just thinking about it. And even though ultimately I can't say it's one of my favorites, I keep coming back to True Grit. Probably because a little while ago I discovered a lovely WIP fic by [livejournal.com profile] lindentree called With No Lodestar In Sight and I keep wanting to refresh my experience of the film as new chapters come out. Also Netflix sent me Midnight in Paris, which is painfully adorable. Boy there were a lot of medium geniuses hanging out in Paris in the 1920s, huh? Dang.

Anyway, a shower needs to be had, a Grimm episode needs to be watched, I really can't get away from the passive voice today... Busy, busy, busy.

ETA: Grr, no Grimm episode. Fine, whatever.
lotus0kid: (have a nice day)

Jeez, I could stand an update, couldn't I? Well, anyway, over the last few days I took it upon myself to keep avoiding cleaning finally watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. The TV show, of course. I had made it through the second season, but missed the last one- just couldn't get the hang of kids' programming schedules. Plus, I'm pretty sure I was battling through my toughest semester of college at the time. But anyway, thanks to Netflix Instant, I finally got to watch the rest of this amazing show. And it really is amazing. Honestly, it's one of those things where, if you say you don't like it, I genuinely think you didn't get it. Sorry, but it's true, you didn't. Go back and try again. That finale, though- heh, they really went the full Dragon Ball Z on us, didn't they? I knew that field of giant rock columns looked familiar. I'll definitely have to keep an ear out for when the sequel's airing.

Let's see, other stuff, other stuff... I've got Snow Patrol's latest and Amy Winehouse's posthumous album to listen to, not sure when I'll get around to that. For now I think I'll go catch up on The Daily Show and see what this whole Colbert for President thing is about.

P.S. Grimm and Sherlock spoilers )
