First world problem of the day: when you have something to do later on, so you try to think of ways to pass the time between now and then, but end up screwing around doing nothing until you run out of time to do anything. Great job, self.

So! Before White Collar comes on (jeez, I didn't even bother watching last week's episode, here's hoping the Previously On is extra informative), I'll do another one of these!

12 – Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

Indeed I have! Those are so much fun! It's kind of a fascinating mix of creativity and non-creativity when you think about it. Neither the characters nor the plot are original, but the act of combining them creates a new story. Anyway, I find it interesting. I consider all my stuff as basically various thought experiments, figuing out how these characters would act in this situation and how I can present that in an entertaining way. I'm always happy sitting at work or on a car ride or somewhere if I can pass the time ruminating on a fic in progress.

So, what the hey, if anyone's curious, here are my fic adaptations (so far):
Bad Reputation, a Plaude fic based on Shrek
Incognito, a Plaude fic based on Notorious
Wow, hard to get further apart on the spectrum than those two movies, but I'm actually pretty proud of both of those fics. I still like them and have re-read them more than once.

I'd like to do one with Rumbelle, but nothing's jumped out at me yet. Maybe if no one claims that It Happened One Night idea from the Rumbelle Movie Club...

Well, that almost killed half an hour. *wanders off to check Tumblr again*

Adaptation fics are the best. I've never heard them called that before (I normally go with "fusion"), but when they're done creatively and well (as with your Plaude fics), they make me so happy.

They're just so fun to think about- taking this bit of this canon and putting it there and that bit of that canon and putting it there. You really make something new out of the old.

Do you have any recs for other fusion fics? I.. can't remember seeing any besides my own.

Well, like you said, technically there should be so little originality involved, and yet...

Heh, I read this really funny Steve/Tony Clueless one once. I...would have to track down a link.

ETA: So this is basically Wimbeldon with John and Sherlock.

Clueless with Steve/Tony, some background Clint/Coulson because it's me, and lots of other fun stuff.

Yeah, and I doubt there's another medium you could possibly get away with doing it in.

Oooh, I will take Clueless!Avengers, thanks kindly! I haven't seen Wimbledon just yet, though it's in my queue, so I'll save the other one for later.

Well, self-published m/m fiction sometimes seems to go for that kind of thing, but...that's a really small sphere.

Enjoy! Wimbeldon is sweet and innocuous enough, and Paul Bettany is adorbs in it.

Also: I MAY BE GETTING A DOGGY! I went to go see him today, and my parents said yes! So if the application goes through...

Hunh, no kidding? Interesting.

That's what I'm hoping for.

YAY! And speaking of adorbs- hello, handsome!

I've seen a lot of summaries that I could tell were Famous Story, Only With Gay, although I can't recall a specific one at the moment.

There's also some mild slashiness with him and his tennis partner, so.

He's so sweet. He's really calm, a little bigger than Tofico was, and apparently not a big cuddler, but still really sweet.

Yes! Adaptation fics are crazy, but fun. I remember enjoying the Shrek fusion a lot, though I'm not sure if I finished it. I'll have to go back and reread it. I'm currently writing my first fusion 'verse, Toy Story scenes with the Avengers, so I totally agree with your sentiments about how making the characters fit that situation while still being at least semi-IC is fun.

Thanks, Bad Reputation's not going anywhere, if you want to dip into it again. Oooh, Captain America and Iron Man as Woody and Buzz is adora-brilliant!
