Going to see The Hunger Games in a bit. I'm really not particularly interested in reading the books, but I've heard very good things about this movie, so I'm checking it out. Also, as some review or other said, the subject matter is so much about the visual that I think a movie might be the best format for it.

Aside from that it's important for me to see it because, well, I'm falling behind in watching the Swindon Town Swoodilypoopers. Not sure I mentioned them, but a little while ago I started watching John Green play FIFA 11 on YouTube and am now a fervent supporter of the Swindon Town Swoodilypoopers. This is probably the closest I've ever come to being a fan of a sport-type thing, which says a very great deal about how entertaining the Swoodilypoopers are under the management of John Green. Anyway, a couple of vids ago he talked about The Hunger Games and thankfully warned for spoilers, so once I've watched the thing, I can catch up on my Swoodilypoopers in their quest for virtual glory.

So, that's my afternoon. My morning was getting my taxes done, which is always nerve-wracking because what I don't know about taxes is pretty much everything there is to know about taxes. Whatever, it's done now.

Hey, let's do another one of these!

3 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?

Hm, okay, first of all, I was pretty damn thorough when I did day two, so we're gonna go ahead and count out the fandoms where I've only written one or two things.

Firefly- Probably Mal or Kaylee. I know my multi-chapter is from River's POV, but she's fairly intimidating. I'm not sure how thrilled I'd be to try again.
Codename Kids Next Door- After three multi-chapters I might as well say something, even if it was, uh, nine-ish years ago (holy crap). Uh, Five, I guess. She was cool.
Heroes- Heh, go on, guess. Claude, duh, the most interesting character IMO on the show. Peter- well, Peter has his up sides, but I find it tough to bring him up to Claude's level of awesomeness. I've also enjoyed writing Noah in the past. I'm still kinda fond of Claude/Sandra/Noah.
The Middleman- Wendy, I think, maybe Lacey. Of course, I've probably spent the most time in Mirror!Wendy's head, which is.. a thing.
Grimm- Well, my only options as of now are Nick or Monroe, so I'll go with Monroe. Because I find him so Claude-like. I'm easy like that.
Reaper- The Devil is a blast to write, for sure. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, I wouldn't say no to Ben.

P.S. I'm kind of in a horror mood ATM. I blame whoever put Masters of Horror and Mark Gatiss' A History of Horror on YouTube. As such, I'm breaking my new toys. SEND HELP. (*begs muse* please don't let this be multi-chapter, please don't let this be multi-chapter...)

I have practically no interest in reading The Hunger Games books either. I keep seeing people on my dash losing their minds over it, but then in the same breath they talk about how much Catching Fire and Mockingjay suck. So I'm not going to waste my time.

But I think I'll eventually see the movie just for pop culture knowledge reasons.

I do kind of want to know what happens in the sequels, because it's such a screwed up world and it'd be nice to know things get better eventually. However, I've got The Hobbit to read now, so...

I hope you enjoy The Hunger Games. I loved it when I first saw it, but thinking back I'm kind of wondering how good it is from the POV of someone who hasn't read the book. I've heard different things: one of the people I saw it with hadn't read the books and was like "It blew my mind!" and some other people have been like, meh.

You know, I miss writing Peter, more than I miss writing Claude. I mean I love them both, it's just the headspace that Claude required was so exhausting to me sometimes, and it just took more effort. Peter was so...not simple, not even straightforward, but I guess with more canon to go on and more openness it was just easier for me sometimes. Plus he was sweet, and I miss that.

It was pretty good. Sad, though. Jennifer Laurence is great. I'm tempted to spoil myself for the sequels just to know that things get better in this effed up society.

Ye-eah, Peter was easier, no doubt. But Claude was always surprising me with his reactions to things. That was super fun. Anyway, now there's the option of screwed-up post-S4!Peter, who I haven't really tried to wrap my head around yet.

Ahaha, no, it does not get better in that effed up society. I haven't read the books yet, but I spoiled myself (mostly to figure out whether I wanted to emotionally invest in any of the characters) and...yeah no. Terrible things. ETA: And yes, isn't Jennifer Lawrence fantastic? The book is Katniss first person POV and she was scarily good at depicting a lot of the thought processes that are in there.

Well Peter had his own interesting things going, more so as time went on and shit kept happening to him. But even his background and how he turned out was pretty cool to think about. The potential for Angela & Peter trying to figure out how to live with themselves and each other was worth exploring too and I was always tempted. I wish I'd done more with that.

Ah, well, okay then. She is- it killed me when she was in the tube about to go up into the arena, and you could see just how freaking terrified she was. Ugh, so effed up.

Perversely, I really love the idea of a Peter who ends up more screwed up than Claude by the end. I really will write about it, some time, I just.. need to finish my Frankenstein!Belle idea first.

I think in the end there's hints of hope/progress, but for the most part, no. Oooh, that scene; she's just shaking like a leaf and totally freaked out, poor thing. They didn't do as much with Cinna as I wanted, but I liked how he was with her in that scene.

Yeah, that too; especially how Claude spent his time moving away from the Grrr, humanity into at least giving a crap about some people, so there's a kind of shift in dynamic, potentially. I'd say it's more fun than S1, maybe only because I did so much of S1 and am bored of it.

Hee, well, how much Frankenstein!Belle do you have left to do?

Yikes, no thank you. Yeah, there could've been a bit more done to make me believe her friendship with Cinna, but what was there was nice.

Pretty much, that role-reversal could be pretty fascinating. A character playing against their established nature is always more interesting than the other way around.

Oh jeez, I don't know. It can't be much. It can't be because OW IT HURTS.

I'm probably going to read the books as the movies come out (like, when the next movie is about to come out, I'll read the book a week or so ahead of time). Yeah, to be honest, there's not a whole lot more Cinna/Katniss interaction in the book, but I kind of expected them to bulk it up (or at least show some of the better scenes!), but I think the friend chemistry was there. Maybe he'll have more to do in the next movie where I know for a fact he dies horribly.

:( I assume this is the horror you wanted to write? Yeah that doesn't end well.

Nooo! Okay, forget those books, I don't even care if they're just going to kill off the character who comes closest to being a decent person in the sea of grossness.

Not at all, but I've gotta get it out there. Doesn't help that the only other thing I have to do today is a trifecta of chores (dishes, laundry, cleaning).

Date: 2012-04-08 09:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Well, I'd recommend the first book, at least, because you do get more Cinna being awesome and Katniss and Peeta being snarky in their own ways. But the second and third books, I've heard worse things about.

Aw, you didn't do anything for Easter? I would've invited you over, I just figured you were going to be with your family.

From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Hm, well, anyway, I'm gonna be hobbiting it up The Hobbit style pretty soon.

That's sweet of you. Yeah, Easter isn't really a thing in my family. But don't worry, I have a chocolate bunny, so it's all okay.

Awwww, The Hobbit! Bilbo is so adorable even if you don't picture him as Martin Freeman, which of course I did. Sometimes the book can get kind of ridiculous with deus ex wizard/giant eagle/elves all over the place, but on the whole it made me so warm and fuzzy toward everyone. His interaction with the character Benedict Cumberbatch is playing is just...just so hilarious. I've been calling Smaug the smitten kitten dragon because he so is. Bilbo just kind of blunders in there and starts asking him questions and playing up his ego and it's awesome.

It would have been more for me than anything. We had guests but after a while I kind of got bored and went to take a nap.

Yup, that's pretty much what I'm reading for- imagining Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug. Also possibly for practice keeping all the dwarves straight.

Ugh, sounds awful. Actually, I did see my dad and stepmom today because my dad had his right hip joint replaced last week and I needed to put in an appearance.

Date: 2012-04-09 01:09 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Hah, I can never keep the dwarves straight. At first I tried to make notes ("so and so is the other one's brother and likes to sing") but in the end that was everyone, except for the grumpy one with the sword, who as far as I know didn't like to do anything except grouse about Bilbo not being a good addition to the team. But Bilbo/Smaug alone is worth the price of admission. I'm excited about all the weird fic that will be written about them (I'm sure people in the Sherlock fandom have already started).

Eh, it wasn't that bad, at least there was plenty of food. Well, at least you had something to do, and it's good that your dad's okay.

Date: 2012-04-09 01:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
*sigh* Well, I'll give it my best shot. Oh jeez, there's weird fic, and then there's Bilbo/Smaug fic.

Mm, I could use a nice load of holiday leftovers right about now. Yeah, it was good to check in with him.

Date: 2012-04-09 01:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
*cackles* I know it's weird, but it's not like I want to read Bilbo/Smaug smut or anything I totally would it's just it doesn't exist. Yet. But just more fic about them interacting would be keen.

We have a ton of ham, which I don't particularly like, and some turkey, which was all right.

Date: 2012-04-09 01:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Heh, I'm sure I'll feel the same, I just need to read it first. Thankfully I don't remember how it all shakes out.

Mmm, ham with some scalloped potatoes and green bean, YES PLEASE.

Date: 2012-04-09 01:55 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Heh, I wouldn't be so sure, it's pretty weird. I'm also really into another character that Bilbo interacts with, but naturally there's like no fic about him/them. But said guy is awesome.

Ugh, ham. We had mashed potatoes but mostly ate them. There's lots of left over spinach, though.

So I'm watching CBS, and I just saw a preview of Hawaii Five-O, featuring Masi Oka really heavily. He's still so adorable! Apparently his character's mother was killed by a serial killer.

Date: 2012-04-09 02:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Okay, okay. Is this other character more.. proportionally appropriate?

Blech, spinach.

Aw, I'm glad he's getting more to do on that show! When I watched it, he only turned up a few times. But, another character with a tragically dead mom? Well, okay, Masi.

Date: 2012-04-09 02:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com
Lol, well, he's not a dragon, but compared to a hobbit...

Normally I agree, but this is creamed spinach.

I think it may just be A Very Special Episode, and that's why he's getting that focus. I think "murdered by serial killer" is a lot more tragic. But still, awww, Masi.

From: [identity profile] lotus0kid.livejournal.com
Well, I really have no idea who you're talking about. We'll see if I figure it out as I go along.

Ye-eah, most likely.

And that's bedtime for me. Good night!
